A guitar that Feel like its worth a LOT more.
My wife heard I wanted an Electric Guitar and ordered me a full Fender Squire kit, I put this into my amazon cart and she knew when I did that I am the type to read tons of reviews prior to buying anything. She was correct I had read a ridiculous amount of reviews about guitars in the beginner range. I am not going to repeat what I read but basically this guitar was said to be much higher quality than the rest of the guitars in the range. It turned out my mom bought the other guitar off me when she found out i had it as my dad also wanted one. I have had a chance to use both and I can say a few things, the Fender looks a little cooler, and the sound is a little richer, but the weight and feel of the fender was wimpy compared to the Les Paul. When I played the fender the string vibration rang through the wood and made if feel like force feedback from gaming controllers. I didn't like that at all. the Les Paul has nicer hardware and the construction of the guitar Is amazing. When i got the guitar I thought it was damaged because the volume knob didn't work right, It turned out it was just loose from the body of the guitar, apply a little force and pull the top of the knob off and use pliers to tighten the nut and now its sturdy and works perfect. I didn't need to adjust the truss rod or the strings much, they took a half turn to get them in tune for playing. **BONUS REVIEW** BUY ROCK SMITH 2014!!! I wanted this guitar to learn how to play but I live in an area where the nearest place to take lessons is 50+ miles away, and I work 50 hours a week and have a 45 min commute each way, so my time is limited. My first day with rock-smith 2014 i could barely find the fret in time to hit a single note and when the song switched strings i was like "this is impossible, forget about this!" but I just bought this expensive guitar so i thought I will at the very least complete the 60 day challenge. LET ME TELL YOU! I have been playing for 2.5 weeks and now i am playing 3 songs at full speed and full difficulty with 75% accuracy, I can play the recognizable parts of: Lenard skynard - sweet home Alabama Rolling Stones - paint it black Everclear - Father of mine Foreigner - Jukebox Hero I have always been a artistically talented person; sculpting, painting, drawing, etc... but this is the first time I have almost been in tears with pride when I heard the familiar sounds of songs i love coming out of my hands. I cannot recommend Rocksmith enough. I bought the origonal rocksmith and the disc import tool so now i have a TON of music to learn at any time i feel like it, from a tool that is amazing.

IF YOU'RE DOUBTING IT, READ THIS!!!!!
This is my very first guitar but i did hours and hours of research on things to look out for when buying one. the main and most common issue i would see is guitars not staying in tune. this one doesn't have that problem at all. I re-tune it maybe once or twice a week after playing for 1-2 hours a day bending strings and strumming hard. sometimes ill check the tune and be surprised i don't even need to tweak it. its a solid guitar for a beginner. even after i bought it, i continued to read good reviews on this instrument, including top 10 lists featuring this model. which makes you feel even better that you made the right decision. I'm right at 3 months into buying it and the strings that come on it are still fine. the tuners are solid. the pickups work wonders. absolutely no fret buzz. which is crazy for a guitar this cheaply priced. most need to be taken somewhere to get them setup. but i literally pulled this out of the box, tuned it, and been playing everyday for 3 months. I'm sure some minor adjustments "could" be made but if it ain't broke, don't fix it. i've upgraded my amp and cables though. the cable is fine for a beginner. and so is the amp, however the lack of effects on the amp are VERY limited. and the distortion on the amp is borderline terrible if your wanting to jump straight into rock or metal. but i started out playing without distortion so i could learn everything without making my ears bleed. haha. the action is also set perfect for a beginner in my opinion (string height off the fret board). its not too high and not too low. i've been looking for another guitar to purchase for the past few weeks because i love playing so much now, and i've yet to find one that i would've rather have had than this one as my first guitar. bottom line, its well made, sturdy, no imperfections, and the tone sounds AMAZING. don't believe me?, just google Epiphone Les Paul Special 2 and look at all the reviews and all the top 10 lists this guitar has been featured in. you literally cant go wrong.

Buy the guitar by itself if you can!
Great beginner guitar! If you're a beginner like I am, I'd recommend this guitar if you're looking for something affordable. Great build quality, it's heavier than I thought it would be. The pickups are nice and responsive - you'll want to replace the machine heads and strings if you're looking for longevity. I'm only giving this package 4 stars because the rest of the stuff is mediocre. The picks are decent, the guitar bag is cheap and the amp leaves something to be desired. If you're looking for a decent rock tone, you're going to at least want an amp with some basic effects. The amp included in the package has a decent clean tone, but everything else is pretty crappy. The dirty tone is tinny and thin, and the bass and treble knobs don't help much. If this is your first guitar, I'd suggest buying the guitar by itself and picking up a better amp. You should shop around for something with basic effects - reverb, delay, overdrive, etc. I used this amp for two weeks and quickly got tired of the cheap sounding tone and lack of effects. Great guitar if you buy it by itself and get a decent practice amp. As a beginner you should start with something (anything really) - don't buy into what professional players recommend, just start here and you'll figure out what you want as you learn more about guitars and setups. Also, Rocksmith isn't the greatest teaching tool. It doesn't teach you chord shapes or scales, which are helpful if you're trying to learn the songs in the game. I bought Rocksmith and have barely played it because I've been learning way more from YouTube videos. Just some food for thought, good luck!

OK in all seriousness this is a good buy. I paid just over 370 once handling and tax charges were added to my bill. The guitar came in perfect condition. Zero scratches or marks. It literally was flawless. The rosewood fretboard needed sanding and oiling and the frets were a little sharp but thats ok with a new guitar. I bought some fleur alinco 5 humbucker pickups to upgrade the epiphone pickups. I wanted to get the best possible sound out of the guitar that my budget would allow. I realized that the guitar sounded great with the factory pickups and changing them was pointless for me so I sent them back. Unless you know exactly what sound your going for this guitar already has a nice les paul sound. As my first electric, this guitar sounds better than all the electric guitars I've tried. I've tried 7 other guitars from friends and when I played the les paul special 2 without an amp I realized that It will sound great plugged in and It has great acoustic resonance without being plugged in. I honestly sort of fell in love with it. If I would buy again. I would buy the guitar separately from the player pack. For 200 dollars I would get the guitar and buy a nice practice amp for the same price as this kit. For instance, *Gig bag? Useless for me. *Clip on tuner? Cheap, just ok tuner but I can use my smartphone instead. *Picks? Lol. *Guitar strap? guitar is to much unbalanced to use with a strap. I never perform and always sit anyways. * epiphone electar 10 guitar amp? Its a small amp that is ok for someone to practice with but when I practice I want the best sound thats within my reach so I would pass on the amp and get a better one. People might say it sucks but if you don't have a nice $6000 tube amp and have never played with an electric guitar before pay no mind to them. Its actually an ok beginner practice amp. I got the guitar and bought a new instrument cable (Kirlen cable) with gold tips and the epiphone amp instantly sounds better then with the package cable. I also bought the Blackstar combo amplifier and It sounds very good. If you can play that is. It sounds very clear, almost like a PA with a little gain. The overdrive is nice plus you get a delay built into the amp. I also got the Donner alpha, 3 effect peddle that I use with the epiphone amp. unless you have very similar intentions as I do. Get the guitar separately, get a small, Blackstar, orange, vox, Marshall, fender, yamaha, donner, or #noname amp, whichever sound you prefer. Then get yourself a nice cheap cable, new guitar strings, *very important* i recommend Diaddrio strings. Get a guitar hanger or stand and you should be all set. You still might need picks (I use my fingers) or a pedal effect but that can come later. List to get for neewbies * guitar * amp * new guitar strings * hanger/stand * picks * any oil for fretboard. I used castor oil. * gritty to fine sanding paper for fretboard * painters tape to protect fiberglass neck or rosewood fretboard while polishing * effect peddle and small cable if funds allow Cons on guitar. *the glossy finish scratches very easily. In the future I might just sand it down and repolish it for a more vintage matte style finish * guitar is unbalanced and cannot be used comfortably standing up, as the headstock will tilt down. * the guitar is about 3/4 size small from regular les paul guitars. "Travel size". I didn't know this when ordering and because I'm used to a full sized acoustic I still need to get used to it. If you have a small frame and small hands (like me) its ok. If not, get a full sized guitar instead. All that I changed on my guitar is the stings and the plastic nut for cattle bone nut. The tuning machines work great for me. Honestly don't know why people are complaining. I made a rosewood pickguard and applied it. The volume knob needed a hole but it sure looks great I think. I also sanded off the special ii writing on the truss cover and painted it gold over top.
