This HMD is excellent, but different. Firstly, it’s bowl finicky for fit. Second it’s so hefty that it’s tight inside. The handles should not be left on while using, the get hot (physics). So, tomb-stoning 3 coals is easy, even 4. It’ll take time to start your shisha cooking. The thermometer is useless, but so what... Once it’s working, it’s incredible. The heat is even and constant and the vent adjustment is great. Learn to love it !

I am a big Hookah fan, so when I ordered this device I was really excited to have a way to reduce the carcinogens I Inhale (less coal ash falling onto the tobacco) while also improving the flavor. Also, being able to monitor how hot your coals get was a nice added bonus. Positives: It is solid metal making it really sturdy, comes with rubber handles for transport, and is designed to be able to heat up the coals in the bottom, allowing you to smoke it instantly without really having to get the hookah going. Negatives: It doesn't fit on any of the 10 different bowls I have (however, none are made by Starbuzz), making it kind of wobbly and unsafe. I am also disappointed to learn that the top doesn't lock on the bottom. I expected some sort of twisting locking mechanism, so if it does fall from the bowl the top wouldn't fall off sending coals everywhere (not the case). The removable handles are nice, but one thing I didn't know until doing some research before smoking, is they aren't really heat resistant. This means you don't want to leave them on while heating up the system up or smoking because they get too hot and can burn you. The handles also make it more unstable on top of the bowel hanging over the edge. They are also kind of difficult to twist on when it is hot because you have no way to grab the N.A.R. and hold it still. The biggest disappointment and really the reason I am writing this review came on the third time using this product. I heated up my coals and the bottom without the top of the device on. Then when they were properly heated I place the top on and screwed the handles in and transported it to my hooka then took the handles back off. Within 10 minutes of smoking, I heard a loud pop and looked at the top of the hookah and the glass on the thermometer had exploded sending glass everywhere. Luckily of the four people sitting around it, no one was hurt. The only thing I can figure is somehow moisture must have gotten into the thermometer and heated up and expanded, causing the glass to explode. I haven't seen other reports of this happening so I'm wondering if mine was defective. I e-mailed the seller (Crimson Distribution) and Starbuzz (the manufacturer) a week ago but I have not heard anything back. I will say it is still usable because the thermometer was designed to be taken off, so maybe I can get a new one. But either way, I just wanted to make buyers aware that this can happen.

5th time modifying my review as it keeps getting rejected. purchased this because it says starbucks. it just doesnt work. even when preheated. its so small inside u can barely fit 2 cubes ( which its not enough to produce heat that transfers to your bowl due to the thick metal) seller rejected the return stating that their return policy is only three days ( laughable, right?) and claimed that i dont know how to pack the bowl right. you are talking to a middle eastern that smoked hookah before starting school, not that its something to brag about... after a month of back and forth emails, amazon refunded me , and oh, the thermometer on top, is a joke. it simply doesn't work correctly and the rod goes to the bottom of the hmd preventing you to put the proper amount of charcoal. and also there are many reports of it exploding ( due to heat ) sending glass flying into every eye staring at that joke of a product.
