A stunning looking, feature-packed G-Shock!
This is easily one of the best looking watches I’ve seen. I don’t usually go for digital over analogue but this is one exception I was only too happy to make. Being one of the Blackout range of G-Shocks it’s all different shades of black and other off-black colours and just looks stunning. The display can be difficult to read in certain light conditions but this isn’t a problem as long as your eyesight is ok plus the backlight works brilliantly. The bracelet strap is a composite of plastic and metal so is very lightweight as is the watch as a whole. It’s also very comfortable on the wrist. I had to remove a few links so make sure you also have the appropriate link adjustment tool which can be purchased on Amazon. It’s solar powered so you’ll never have to change the battery and compromise the watch’s seal so it’ll remain water resistant. It’s also Bluetooth enabled so connects easily to the G-Shock phone app. It’s also Multiband 6 enabled so connects to one of the 6 global atomic clocks so is always set at the correct time. It even has an auto light function which illumines when tilted towards you. I paid £119 (RRP is £199), so it was an absolute steal at that price. The technology inside this otherwise innocuous looking watch is deceptively good and coupled with the stunning, stealthy look, it gets my absolute highest recommendation.

Super Watch if you like negative display.
I already have a number of g-shocks and this is the best yet. Minimal in design with no superfluous lettering, but contains a high tech module. It works well with the G-Shock connected app, updating time every 6 hours if in bluetooth range of smartphone (the app does not have to be open, the watch connects automatically). It can also be used without the app, synchronising time with the UK atomic clock overnight. However a big advantage of using the app is the ability to set up watch functions, thereby minimising button pushing on the watch. The buttons are quite small, though easily operable with a fingernail. A big plus for me is the option of selecting the UK date format (day-month-year in place of the confusing USA month-day-year). The marmite question is the negative display. You either love it or loathe it! In good light it is very legible, but this becomes problematic in low light. This is somewhat mitigated by an excellent blue backlight which can be set to auto. The strap is surprisingly good. I normally prefer a rubber strap, but this composite one looks really well, is very light and, by using springbars to connect the links, is fairly easy to adjust (a springbar tool is advisable but can be done without one by pushing the end of the springbars through the holes provided). Finally, the watch is quite compact (unlike some big g-shocks) and sits well on the wrist.

Excellent watch...
I own a Cartier Tank and a Rolex Submariner. Beautiful watches, but would I go camping with them? No. Would I go swimming in the sea with them? No, not even the Submariner. Would I go rock climbing with them? No. This stealth version of the classic 5600 is an awesome watch. Built like a tank. Solar powered so no batteries or winding to worry about, atomic time so no adjusting. Yes, it's difficult to read in some lighting but I bought this watch for it's stealthy attributes. I've only had it a couple of weeks and have had quite a few comments on how nice it looks. Some reviews criticise the negative display. Well, all I can say is... why did you buy it in the first place? Look at the pictures before purchasing! Anyway, if you can't read it, press the light button (which is a lovely shade of blue by the way) and all will be revealed. This is a beast of a watch with a very comfy strap. Fit and forget.... highly recommended

This understated G-Shock may just turn out to be one of the best
OK, I'll get the contentious issue out of the way to start with. This watch has a negative display, it will not be as readable at the same angles as the watches positive display sisters, but in the good light at the right angle it just looks really stunning. This watch has the more subdued face of the 5600 series and a composite watch band comprising of resin and metal inter links. Once the band is sized it is pretty comfortable although not quite as comfortable of the full resin bands possibly due to the lug links that splay from the case body are not as flexible. I do not have big wrists and it's OK, for very small wrists this might be a consideration. Standard resin bands are available online though. The watch works flawlessly with the Casio connected app where you can set reminders and select/swap time zones and location. In conclusion, a cracking G-Shock that only looses a star due to the low light readability (the back light is very good though) and although the band is fine for me it could be an issue for smaller wrists.

Avoid!
Rubbish!!! The strap is advertised as resin... so you think it would be a plastic strap like most other G-Shocks. However, the strap is a link bracelet! A mix of metal and resin. So I had to mess around taking the links out to size it to fit my wrist. So wasting time doing that, I then finally got the watch to fit. I then downloaded the G Shock app, which is advertised as letting you change settings on the watch such as the Day Month Year to European style and not American, and other settings. However, the app stopped working in 2023! You then have to download the 'Casio Watches' app instead, which didn't even connect to the watch! So both apps are useless. Completely pointless having bluetooth on this thing when it does not even work. And to top that off, the watch is tiny, doesn't feel durable at all. Glad I got a refund. This is way overpriced. This thing is worth about £30 if that!

Was eine tolle Uhr.

G Shock watches are a challenge when changing time/dates. The Smartphone link is exactly what I needed.
