Great product

First time user after reading many reviews and mentions here and elsewhere and happy to report it cleared up the tea colored water after adding cholla wood. I had boiled the wood repeatedly so it wasn’t terrible but it made the water cloudy and tea colored. It was easy to add the pre-bagged purigen to the filter and it was very effective. Definitely worth the price - especially as it should be rechargeable to use multiple times in the future. Before and after pictures included, about 48 hours apart. Full disclosure, I put in a new filter to have room for the purigen bag - the one that came with this aquarium was just not big enough to hold it.

Work amazing as absorbing organic waste in the water column and any tannins that may be present. You easily "recharge" or clean purigen simply by soaking it in unscented bleach or my personal favorite is buying a gallon of pool chlorine as it's much stronger than regular house hold bleach. Soak over night and then rinse under fresh water to remove excess bleach. Toss into a bucket with water and a small splash of your favorite dechlorinator such as Prime but any will work. Soak in water and prime over night and it's ready to be put back into the tank. Can be done dozens of times.

I have used this on both my 10 gallon and my 55 gallon tanks. Works great on both for months on months. I have dirted and planted tanks with several pieces of drift wood and that releases lots of tannins into the water column. It almost looks like using a tea bag in water. Some like this look. It's not for me, at least not for these thanks. I tried this product out and in 12 hours it was a night and day difference. Water got clearer each day and by the third day in my tanks the water was clear of most if not all of the tannins. 1 pack makes my 10 gal crystal clear. 1 pack in my 55 gal has an ever so light tint that is nearly unnoticable. (Unless looking from the side of the tank or comparing with my 10 gallon. One of the best parts of this product, is that you can reuse these bags. It's a slight process that involves soaking bleach and water. So I bought two more bags so that I can swap out the old with the new. Then I can recharge the old ones while the new ones absorb the tannins. Then repeat the cycle when needed. I easily recommend this if you want to get rid of tannins in your aquarium water.
