I have ordered the 4 brick selection a few times now. I got into plants several years ago and over time have amassed around 200 indoor houseplants (I later downsized to around 80 because that’s crazy!) Anyway, when I first started my hobby I went straight for the miracle grow dirt because I didn’t know not to use just potting soil. The more I got into “fancy plants” like expensive alocasias and what not, the more I learned about different mediums and pest control. I went from potting soil to potting soil with perlite, then to leca, and recently to a mix of this stuff, giant perlite and worm castings. I know there are other mixes people use but so far this has worked for me. Being soiled, it cuts down on pests especially fungus gnats since they have nothing to lay their eggs in. It helps keep the roots moist but not so much that they rot and allows airflow to the roots as well. I feel like the mixtures I use create a healthier more natural environment to which the plants normally grow and am seeing great results! When I initially ordered the bricks I tried breaking them up by hand and that was a disaster. They are compacted way to tight to just break up. I found that placing them in a big tub and moistening them with water makes them easy to break up and mix with the perlite. Don’t over soak it! Just give it enough to allow the bricks to soak it up without leaving puddles in the tub. One thing about spikes medium though is you will have to fertilize regularly since there is no dirt to provide nutrients. Happy planting!

A lot of it was more junk than real pieces. It lasts a long time and the color stays.

Great for ANY plants to provide breathing room in pots. I add it to whatever medium is needed for a specific plant. I like the chips b/c u can decide if you want big chunks or small. Anyone who said sphagnum moss is great for orchids needs to try coconut substrate instead. Might be good for baskets, but in pots, i found the coco had a better result w/ orchids.

Packaged very well. Once the water added to ONE of three, the expansion was robust. (used enough to moisten not soaked) Held moisture well for a week with the moist option. So if drenched, it should hold for three weeks/month before drying. Using on some indoor plants w/ clear nursery pots to monitor root health as I transition to soilless. Other plants are semi hydro to hydro. Mostly using for indoor garlic/ginger/red potatoes in pots. Then transferring to grow bag 70/30 soil to soilless. Shown 📷 added lava rocks. Clean n Chunky... Cost fair. Definitely worth it.
