Two CD set. 2018 collection from the French electronic music pioneer. Planet Jarre is a compilation studio album celebrating 50 years in the music business. A total of 41 tracks have been hand-picked, remastered and retouched by Jarre himself. Jean-Michel Jarre is a pioneer in the electronic, ambient and new-age genres. His first mainstream success was the 1976 album Oxygène. More albums were to follow, but his 1979 concert served as a blueprint for his future performances around the world. Several of his albums have been released to coincide with large-scale outdoor events, and he is now perhaps as well-known as a performer as he is as a musician. Review: Ok - As described Review: Good overview. - Good overview of JMJ tracks. Tails off towards the end of disc 2.

Stunning Collection
On record I think this is his sixth compliation of songs but this one is different. Its split into four sections which smoothly interlink with each other. We have got some suprises like the 2 new songs (Coachella Opening and Herbailzer) which are worthy additions to the album mixed with the classics from the numerous albums he has done. The only real tracks I see missing are the Aero album songs which are no surprise and nothing from the dreadful Teo & Tea album released over a decade ago..the album he wants to forget. Nice to see a few tracks from the underrated Oxygene 3 album included. Worth noting a few of the classics sound slightly different (Fourth Rendez-Vous for instance must be the single mix and Oxygene 8 certainly sounds more disco then the album version). We also got a shorter version of Waiting for Costeau and finally hearing Music for Supermarkets the very rare track. Some surprises that should have not really been included like Exit and the experimental 'fourth side' is much weaker compared to the other three but no surprise as this is his much older tracks. Overall is it worth buying if you have got the other compliations? I would say so due to the inclusion of tracks like Music for Supermarkets and the two new tracks plus the slight alteration of a few of the classics (thankfully Oxygene 4 the signature tune is untouched here). For a new fan to his music then its a must :)

A great collection of Jarre through the ages
Before I start, has anyone else looked at the cover art and thought "Victim of Thanos"? Also, his next album is called Equinoxe Infinity... It does seem like every few years Jean-Michel Jarre will release a collection of his best music; I think this is his 4th? Still, with 50 years of music to look back on, he has quite a back-catalogue to call upon. There are some tracks that are on this set that have appeared in all the previous versions. Pieces like Oxygene part 4 and Equinoxe part 5 are two such tracks, but please don't get me wrong; they earn their place in this set effortlessly. For me, Oxygene part 4 is the epitome of his music; I still get the hackles down the back of my neck from listening to it today as I did the first time I heard it back in the eighties, when I was a teenager at a roller skating rink, who had to hold himself upright against a railing because the haunting melody captivated me so much. Most of the tracks on here are remastered versions of the originals, but there are a few that have new arrangements. Zoolookologie deserves a mention as it has a particularly fine arrangement with an excellent coda to bring it to a close. As for the choice of tracks, they are for the most part pretty good. There are a few tracks I would have been happy to drop in favour of a different piece. For example I would have been happier to have had Chronologie Part 2 instead of Erosmachine, as the thwapping ruler beat is used so much more effectively in the later piece. Similarly I would have preferred any of the Calypsos to have been used instead of Waiting For Cousteau. But this is down to personal preference, and it wasn't me doing the choosing. One piece I really wish he had included though was Acropolis; other than on some hard to get hold of concert DVDs and on the Orchestral JMJ, this incredible piece of music has not had an album release, and Planet Jarre would have been an ideal place for that. That minor grumble aside, this is still an excellent collection, and has many pieces of music that will have you playing Air Keyboard for hours. Why yes, I do frequently see people giving me strange looks. Why do you ask?

This is a great album from Jarre
If your new to Jean Michel Jarre then this is a great way to start your collection of his works I gives you a chance to sample all the years he has been producing music, and Jarre is great for those who have never heard of his work and a great addition to those who have followed his music from the start.

This is a superb collection of some of Jarre's best know works. Remastered with added synth's in most tracks. Very atmospheric, haunting and inspiring! I have been a fan of Jarre since I first heard Oxygene, (most famously adapted and used in 'Gallipoli'), have most of his recordings, this one completes my collection.

Ja! Ja! Ja! Jean-Michel Jarre! Immerhin bekommt man 41 Titel in toller Qualität geboten.
