Tormek SVX-150 Sharpening Jig for Scissors. Give all of your scissors and shears a sharp, even edge.

I collected about a dozen sets of scissors, from hair cutters to scrap booking scissors to large fabric shears, for a sharpening session when my Tormek Scissor Jig SVX-150 arrived. Tormek suggests that the most common scissor blade angle is 60 degrees. I checked, and only one of my scissors had this angle; there was actually quite a variety of angles. I was careful to match the existing angles in each case and the jig worked very effectively. All of the scissors are a pleasure to use!

This jig for my Tormek sharpener had become my favorite. I can now easily sharpen my sizers and small planer blades which previously could not sharpen due to there small size. Highly recommend for your Tormek accessory box.

Good for sharpness

Of all of the Tormek jigs I have, this is the one I am least fond of. I still like it quite a bit, but I found it to be a little more difficult to use and to get a sharp edge on scissors. I finally learned how to use it correctly, but it took a lot of practice an ruining a pair of scissors in the process.

Just what I needed to complete my Tormek setup that I purchased for a good price at a garage sale. I use it the system primarily for sharpening knives and scissors and occasional chisels and etc.

This works for scissor but isn’t the best tool for it. I also own a Twice as Sharp scissor system which far surpasses using this for scissors on my Tormek. I get nervous using this as blade can catch if you are paying very close attention and I’ve sharpened for a long time. I know a lot comes down to learning curve but a free form tool with such a wide surface to be sharpened make a lot more surface area to potentially catch like it did on me when doing a pair of fabric shears. I really wanted to like this but just doesn’t measure up to systems designed for scissors and shears specifically.

Haven’t used it yet, so I can’t really rate it yet, but from watching YouTube videos, looks simple to use.

I have sharpened about 20 scissors with this. That 20 includes two grass shears and two hedge trimmers. Beautiful edge on all I have sharpened so far. It is not, I repeat, it is not a brainless "stick it on the stone and be done.". I thought I ruined the first dress maker's scissors I sharpened. The back guide slipped, and I ruined the angle. Took a break. Came back, and finished the bad angle the full length then reground the correct angle being careful of the guide. The owner was happy. She said they cut better than when they were new. She complemented me on grinding the "relief" so she could see the cloth better.
