Smart Remote Control - Compatible with HERO8 Black, MAX, HERO7 Black, HERO6 Black, HERO5 Black, HERO5 Session, and Fusion (GoPro Official Accessory)

My review of the Go Pro Smart Remote I purchased this to work in conjunction with my Go Pro Hero 5 Black digital camera. As pictured, it arrived on time and in retail packaging. I purchased the camera to record the travels I take on my motorcycle. I have the camera mounted on my motorcycle helmet. Since the camera was mounted on my helmet, I could never tell if it was recording or in what mode it was set to. I came back from one short ride and discovered when I powered on the camera, I had accidentally changed it from video to time lapse and I actually had over 750 time lapse photos instead of video. I decided it was time to give the Go Pro Smart Remote a try. As it turned out, it was a smart decision. When the remote arrived, I charged it up for a few hours. Sorry, but I didn't time how long it took to reach full charge. Following the included instructions, pairing the remote with my camera was a snap. Once it was paired, it was time to give it a test run. Using the remote, I powered on the camera. It took a few seconds after the camera was turned on for the remote and camera to connect via the cameras WiFi. Once it did, I could see from the screen on the remote that the camera was set to Video mode and what video settings were in effect. I pressed the record button and heard the camera beep and start recording. A red light on the remote began blinking, indicating it was recording. Pressing the record button a second time resulted in the red light turning off and I could hear the camera beeping indicating it had stopped and was saving the recording. I did this several times and both the remote and camera functioned perfectly. Using the included key ring, I attached the remote to a lanyard which I placed around my neck and went for a test ride. As expected, it functioned exactly how I wanted it to. You can control up to 50 Go Pro cameras from an optimal distance of 600 feet or 188 meters. Unfortunately though you can only control one camera at a time. It is also supposed to be water proof up to 33 feet or 10 meters. I'll have to take Go Pro's word for it though, since I only have 1 camera and don't intend to take it deep sea diving. I would caution anyone who might be considering purchasing one of the less expensive knock off remotes you find online. Some only function to turn the camera Off, not On. Would you but a remote control for your TV that only turns it Off, but not On? Silly huh...... I would have liked the charging cable to be a little longer but that certainly isn't a blemish on the product or my rating. I'm extremely happy with this purchase.

Great accessory to start/stop recording on multiple gopros at the same time. Also great to start recording from the remote while the cameras are turned off. One thing to keep in mind is that the cameras need to be powered on along with the remote to allow them all to sync up and then power off the remote (which will power off the cameras while keeping the wifi controller active on cameras even when they are powered off) Also note that the cameras will drain the batteries much faster while the camera is powered off from the remote. Battery life is good on the remote, just remember to power it off once done using it, otherwise the battery will drain within a day. The display is not backlit, so viewing the remote at night is not practical.

I bought this to use when I am kayaking. My gopro is mounted on the front of my kayak beyond arms reach, and it isnt easy to use a phone and paddle at the same time. This was the perfect solution. It is very easy to use and paired with my gopro seamlessly. The only negative thing is that the battery life is somewhat short. I wish it had removable batteries like the gopro so I could switch them out. Once the batteries are down, it has to be plugged in. One other negative that won't apply to everyone is that the wrist strap that was included is quite large. I have small wrists, and I have to strap it around my forearm or it moves up and down my arm. So if you have small wrists, be aware that if may no fit snugly.

Mixed feelings. It's very useful, but... I used it with TWO gopro hero 7s and a Hero 5 Black. Followed instructions from youtube. It worked flawlessly at first. Connected easily and for the most part, it stayed connected. Then 72 hours later, when I was prepping to actually use it the night before a real-world project..... it was dead. Wouldn't charge. Wouldn't even power up. Ended up not being able to use it for the project that I bought it for. FIX #1: I had to dismantle it, clean all contacts with rubbing alcohol, and then put dielectric grease on all metal contacts to block corrosion or other contamination. Worked temporarily. FIX2: Dismantled it again, then used aluminum foil to add spacers to the charging port internal contacts on the inside of the device. Now it's working perfectly. For a few months now....on multiple projects. Reliably so. I love how useful it is. But? I never had it working for the original project that I needed it for. Would I buy it again? Probably would. Because it really is value for money when it's tweaked and working correctly. If you buy one, just be prepared to do the aluminum foil fix. Micro torque bit required.

This is a must have accessory for the go pro. I recently purchased the Hero 4 Silver and tried out the app for a few weeks and hated it. Its lags, has trouble connecting and always shuts off after a few minutes. The remote is so great! Is connects quickly and easily. If you use a pole to take photos, its such a hassle to reach out adjust settings and take a photo while its on the pole. Using the remote is great and this one allows you to adjust settings from it as well! The price is high but its worth the cost cause it really does make taking photos so much easier.

After about a 45 minute initial charge, I linked it to my go pro seamlessly. I was easily able to turn it on and off, without having to actually touch my GoPro, which was great. I was able to mount my GoPro on the front of the car, and I could remotely record video while driving, and the footage turned out amazing! The remote s waterproof so I can't ait to use it while kayaking. I'm really happy I can now control my camera remotely and quickly. It also comes with a quick release key, so I can easily attach it to my coat, backpack or kayak, and have it ready to go at a moments notice. This also comes with a wriststrap, so you can wear the remote on your wrist like a watch. I'm happy with the purchase. 10/10

Può essere caro, ma è Gopro! Evitate le imitazioni e andate sul sicuro. Funzione benissimo e fa quello che deve, io l'ho usato per un Viaggio di 3 settimane negli States e devo dire che mi è stato utilissimo soprattutto per i Photo-Selfie e Video-Selfie, una comodità unica! Unica pecca che quando spegnete la Gopro dal telecomando rimane attivo il WiFi quindi dovete ogni volta disattivarlo dalla Gopro stessa altrimenti continuerà a mangiare energia alla batteria. La batteria del telecomando, invece, a me è durata tantissimo, anche con molto utilizzo. Insomma per chi cerca un controllo remoto per la propria Gopro, questo è l'oggetto che fa al caso suo!

Works great!! I'm glad I got it. I can have the Camera mounted on the front of my boat facing aft and start recording and stopping with out climbing up front to the camera....etc A real hassle without the remote. It makes it so much easier to get those shots you want. opens it up wide open on possibilities.

El mando funciona perfectamente con la GoPro Hero 3+ Black edition. Perdí el original de mi cámara hace un tiempo y he comprado este modelo nuevo con un botón extra (para las nuevas Gopro) El envío ultra rápido, lo pedí el viernes y este lunes ya lo tenía en casa. Viene con la cinta de velcro y su cargador, todo original de GoPro. Todo perfecto, encantado con la compra.

J’ai acheté cette télécommande principalement pour réaliser des films en roulant en trottinette électrique. En la fixant près de la poignée du guidon (fixation perso provenant d’un phare de vélo), cela permet de déclencher la caméra qui est fixée en bas de la trottinette, sans lâcher le guidon (extrêmement dangereux). Cela permet de déclencher la caméra seulement lorsqu’il y a un intérêt à filmer, ainsi je n’ai pas au montage du film, 36h à dérusher (monter) comme lors d’un enregistrement en continu. De cette manière, la carte mémoire n’a pas besoin d’être énorme et la caméra consomme moins de batterie puisqu’elle ne filme pas tout le temps (il est même possible d’éteindre la caméra avec tout de même une légére consommation de la batterie dû au WIFI qui consomme). Très important... comme la caméra n’est pas dans mon visuel lorsque je roule, l’écran LCD permet de contrôler avec certitude que l’enregistrement a bien commencé, tout en indiquant la durée de celui-ci. La télécommande permet de changer les modes (photo/vidéo) et les paramètres de la caméra. Cette fonction est très pratique car elle permet de ne pas avoir à dérégler l’angle de vue de la caméra pour changer de mode ou de paramètre. Elle est étanche à la poussière et aux projections d’eau Il est possible de charger la télécommande quand elle est connectée à une caméra. Je l’utilise régulièrement avec 2 caméras, et la synchro est très facile à réaliser. Les moins : j’aurais préféré une prise de charge standard Produit indispensable pour filmer mes randonnées
