A good break from screen time
This was gifted to my teenage nephew and was a hit with him. He obviously needed some adult supervision to help him get started with the soldering, but once he got going, it was a breeze. The instruction leaflet that came along with the kit was sufficient and he did not need to refer to any videos. He completed the project within 2-3 hours. It was quite satisfying for him to complete the build and enjoy the retro games on something he had built on his own. This kit needs 4 batteries but there is an option to use the USB port which is quite convenient. The components are of good quality, and there are spares provided for the minor components. If you are looking from a good break from screentime whilst providing an excellent learning experience, then this product would not disappoint you.

Great quality product for an introduction to assembling and soldering electronics.
I relied on other customer feedback as difficult to assess the quality, but I bought two of these kits as 'dad' gifts for my 10 and 12 year old daughters. I was really pleased with the high quality PCB, components, and case. This is all about the soldering and assembly, and playing the simple games at the end, and not about learning electronics. The printed instructions are clear but take a moment to work out the sequence of steps across the two pages. The linked video from the QR code doesn't really show any detail of best soldering practice, so perhaps better to look at some other general soldering tutorials for anyone that are unsure. On completion, the games worked with no issues and overall I was delighted with this kit. Amazing how my kids enjoy these simple games despite all the Nintendo games they have experienced. I wasn't sure they would appreciate the gift, but it seems to have been a success! 10 year old needed some guidance and supervision as soldering was new to her. 12 year old had done a little at school and mostly did it on her own.

An Ok Kit But No Soldering Iron Included
This is a decent enough kit and provides a nice and practical way for children (and anyone for that matter) to learn some hands on soldering skills. It's also good for teaching kids about electronics and the components used in devices to make them work too and the finished product is a mini games console that plays a few simple games (Tetris and snake amongst them) on so it's not only a rewarding experience but an engaging one. I remember doing all this in school and several of the teenagers (in my family) I recently spoke to have never seen a soldering iron in their life which is a real shame. The manufacturer's age range on this says 14+ but honestly with adult supervision I think 8 and up is fine. My 10 year old was fascinated and had a great time with it. The instructions were fine enough and we could follow them without any issues but I do think they needed to be more engaging for beginners. We were fine with because I knew what I was doing but a total novice might feel a little confused in places. There are a few other negatives. The kit is fun but once it's put together and the games were played with for an afternoon it was soon forgotten. I think it needs more games. 4 isn't really enough, especially not for the price. Just put a load of shovel-ware on there and it's keep kid's attention for longer. As it is it's very much a one and done kind of thing. The big downside to this though is the fact it doesn't come with a soldering iron, you have to buy your own to complete this kit which is a shame. Still it was fun for a little while and it does teach important skills so I do recommend it.

Great kit fun and educational
Took about two hours to build with no prior experience the only flaws I found were the language in the instructions are a bit confusing almost like it’s google text and the screw driver is far too small for the screws and one of my screws was squashed so unusable but thankfully it was a spare which I’m so impressed they give you so many spares as it was my first go I have some extra bits just incase I forgot to mention I’d also have preferred a battery cover as they are all open at the back

Great introduction to electronics
Just helped my son build this as his first soldering project. What an amazing well thought out little kit. We had a fantastic morning building it together and it worked perfectly once completed. Would not hesitate in recommending for someone looking to get into electronics!

Good starter kit with clear instructions and a video to follow!
Managed to do it with 11 y.o. without a problem not having done much soldering before, but have watched youtube tutorial videos on how to solder. Instructions are clear and you can also follow a video on youtube with instructions and demo how to do it. And you get to play some retro style games at the end! Highly recommended.

Very good project
This is a very good product. There is one spare of each component if you do need one which is a great. We'll packaged and put together.

Great little kit for kids
This is a great little starter set for kids to practice soldering with. It comes with all you need to make a little games machine (you do need your own soldering iron and solder), and while the games are a little crude and lacking, it’s all about the production of the system where you’ll get the most out of this. My lad enjoyed putting it together and learning how you use a soldering iron. Overall it’s a good little starter set and can recommend it if you want to teach younger kids how to put electronics together.

Perfect for beginners

I have been teaching my 6 and 7 year olds how to solder and some of the kits that I've bought expect you to have all of the knowledge of circuitry. This kit, on the other hand, is great for beginners and even calls out things to be careful about, like the direction of the dot matrix displays, or the polarity of the capacitors, etc. My kids were definitely not ready to do this kit by themselves, so for kids their age, expect to sit with them and do most of the work. The final product is also a lot of fun for them. They enjoy all the games.

This kit was a fun project to practice soldering skills. The instructions were written surprisingly well. There are two folded sheets of instructions with page numbers so it is easy to find step 1. Assembly was quite easy for someone that doesn't have much soldering experience. After soldering, we put batteries in and it powered on and buttons worked. No rework required. That was very satisfying for someone with limited solder skill. The kit included a screwdriver so the only tools missing were a pair of pliers and the soldering iron. The most difficult part was holding the plexiglass sides in place while trying to put the bottom plexiglass on and screwing it down. My only complaint is that the hole for the USB cable is smaller than the cables I have. Testing with their provided cable worked fine.
