I specifically looked for a book that had patterns for BEGINNERS because I'm teaching someone who is just now picking up her needles for the first time. The first 30 pages of this book are about tools, technique, and basic knitting instructions. After that, there are only 8 patterns that the book calls "beginner" level, and a few of those are questionable (see stitch and double-strand for someone who is still mastering holding the needles is too advanced). The rest of the book has cables, socks with turned heels, lace, a lot of seasoned knitters with many years experience won't attempt, and even INTARSIA!! Why put "beginner" in the title when the content has very little to offer to a beginner? This book was a waste of money and now I'll have to waste my time packing it up and sending it back. Review: Only buy if you have a good knowledge of the terminology of knitting. - I believe you need to have a good knowledge of knitting in order to understand this book. Just because it say "for beginners" doesn't mean what it says.

No need for trepidation here!!
I wouldn’t expect to love every pattern in a book & didn’t love all these, but there are enough patterns on my list to justify the purchase. The instructions are simple & clear and the photography is great. As a beginning knitter, I read the book, culling all the new tricks, and selected several patterns to try. Simple items, but each has a technique or 2 to try. The time flew along with my needles and in short time there were a 3 successes from my very first needles. I was surprised at how easy it was, a real confidence builder! I would definitely do it over again and will try another such book.

Easy to understand patterns and helpful pictures and explanations
This is another excellent book for beginners. The patterns are easy to understand and follow. Many great patterns to cover every member of your family or friends. I highly recommend it!

More so an Intermediate book.
It should be titled 60 knits for Intermediate knitters.

Not for beginners
Some nice projects but not for beginners as title indicates. Only 8 of the 60 projects are listed as “easy” and for these the beginner needs to use double pointed needles, work two strands of yarn together, make seams, and doing color work. Directions are limited as well with no pictures to guide the beginner.

Met expectations
Patterns are easy and fun. I barely knew how to knit and can follow them. The written directions on knitting can be hard to follow but that probably has to do with how I learn.

A great first knitting book. I love that as someone new to knitting, I can make useful items and modern scarves and shawls straight away. Includes the details of all materials for each project. Contains the technical information you might need to complete the projects at the front of the book, as well as little tips to help with specific projects. The projects begin with easy patterns and become progressively more difficult. I'm enjoying working my way slowly through the book and learning so much a long the way.
