Very good for the price
Really good drivers for the price. As ithers said, decent bass and mids, reasonably okay highs.

Great speaker for small projects
Can't go wrong for 15 bucks. Put this in a shoe box with a small port in the front, and it sounded amazing. Insanely clear quality with surprising bass capability

Replacement 3” midranges for Optimus Satelites
Needed to replace the midrange speaker in one of my Radio Shack Optimus satellite speakers. This was 1990’s vintage that were wired to an 8” subwoofer originally. They are now wired directly to my receiver, and are paired with a 12” Klipsch subwoofer and serve as my front speakers to my 7+1 TV surround system driven by my Sony STR-DH770 receiver. Other surrounds are 4 Micca cube, plus a 3- driver with two passives, Definitive center speaker. All to say I’m very happy with these satellites. They keep up well with all the more modern equipment. I think this result is driven by the passive bass drivers they have that allows them to transition well between all the other speakers in the systems. Flawless transitions in surround mode. Their triangular shape also helps that transition between all the side, rear and front speakers. I couldn’t find better new speakers so I fixed them with these midranges. Think Bose 901s. One original midrange had been distorting at higher volumes with base loads…likely age in the foam of the 3” driver. So I replaced the midranges in both speakers. Getting great specs on all options listed in Amazon was tough. Some providers have great details, many did not. These drivers are not a perfect fit. The drivers are the correct 3” size but the screw holes and housing shape are slightly off. The frames don’t tuck completely into the slight recesses in the speaker face. I used metal snips to cut into the screw holes in the frames to make them slots instead. Now the drivers mount up firmly with no vibration or distortion. They seal up well enough to drive the passive radiators as the originals did. Not 5 stars are they aren’t a drop-in for my housings. Not their fault but that rating reflects my level of relief in having them in place…which is that high!

Breathing NEW LIFE into my Logitech Z5500 sys…..
I researched high and low and these Dayton 3” speakers were the best option there was in terms of performance and price. Although these Daytons are 30wrms and 60w peak as compared to the original Logitech 3” that were around 62wrms, there is no other 3” speaker out there that has greater performance. I wanted to keep my original speaker’s housing so I had to slightly modify the Dayton speakers by cutting off all 4 corners of the speaker chassis as the mounting holes were not lining up with the Logitech speaker housing holes as well as a small modification to the inside face of the Logitech speaker housing for the Dayton speakers to sit flat against the housing faces. Luckily the original screws have washers affixed to them so they clamped the Dayton speakers securely, centered and firmly in place in the housing. Performance: I tested the Dayton speaker on the left against the old Z5500 speaker on the right as shown in the video and the main difference is the new clean, clear and crisp heights as compared to the old Z5500. These Dayton speakers are full range and go up to 20000hz. They sound just as loud as the old Logitech speakers and if you do the maths, it probably is just 1dB lost compared to the Logitech speakers. I did not hear any reduction in loudness though. My Z5500 system sounds phenomenal, like new again. Cheers to many more years of movies and music listening with the Z5500 thanks to these Daytons….. The only negative is that the packaging of the speakers from parts express were not good as one of the speaker had a dent on its chassis corner, it worked for me as I eventually had to modify these speakers for my diy project but the packaging should of been done better at the speakers are just in a box with no foam or any cushioning material. This is a pleasant upgrade and replacement to the Logitech Z5500 system for those of us that needs to replace our old worn out 3” speakers…..

Perfect Repair for Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 Satellites!
This Dayton Audio PC83-8 full-range driver is a phenomenal product, earning a full five stars not just for its inherent quality, but for providing an accessible and high-fidelity solution to a common problem. I purchased this pair specifically to repair the blown satellite speakers on my beloved Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 system (a common failure point). The moment I installed them, the decision was validated: the sound quality is a perfect match for the original drivers, restoring the system's legendary clarity and output. The PC83-8 handles the full range required by the satellites beautifully, delivering crisp highs and punchy mids that integrate flawlessly with the ProMedia subwoofer. Note for Klipsch ProMedia Owners: While the driver is an acoustic match, installation is not plug-and-play. I had to snip off two of the mounting tabs on the driver frame to get it to sit flush within the Klipsch satellite housing. Once this minor modification was made, securing the driver with the remaining two screw points was simple and completely adequate. The driver is held securely and performs flawlessly. If you’re facing dead ProMedia satellites, don't hesitate. This driver offers OEM-level performance for a fraction of the cost of replacing the entire speaker set. It's a fantastic, high-quality component that breathes new life into classic desktop audio systems.

Revived a set of Realistic Minimus 3.5 speakers.
I bought a pair of these to revive a set of Realistic Minimus 3.5 speakers from the 80's. They are a great fit for the small cabinets and the screw holes line up perfectly. They have a little more bass and little less high end compared to the old Realistic drivers. The solder terminals inside the cabinets have to be pushed back a bit due to the larger magnet on the new speaker.
