Product Description Navy intelligence officer Lt Farrell (Kevin Costner) is called into the Pentagon and assigned to investigate the murder of the Defence Secretary's mistress (Sean Young). Trouble is, Farrell was also having an affair with the dead woman and all the evidence he uncovers in his investigation seems to suggest that he was the killer. He claims he is being set up, but then he would say that wouldn't he? desertcart.co.uk Review This implausible, but effective 1987 film stars Kevin Costner (Bull Durham, Wyatt Earp) as a naval officer and CIA agent who may not be what he seems. This sexy thriller is an espionage mystery and an enigmatic character study of two men trying to be faithful to the loyalties they hold. Costner begins a torrid love affair with the mistress (Sean Young) of the Secretary of Defense, but when she turns up dead, Costner is implicated in a web of intrigue that threatens national security and exposes personal secrets at the highest levels. The Secretary and his men try to cover up the affair while simultaneously searching for a Soviet mole in their ranks. Featuring an exciting chase sequence through the Washington, D.C., subways, No Way Out is a standard issue thriller that nonetheless keeps the action coming. --Robert Lane Review: Great Acting and plot! - Watched this for the second time - and completely forgot the ending...... keeps you on your toes - a really good film. An exciting action thriller with a career-making performance from Costner.
I'm not a great Kevin Costner fan but in 'No Way Out' he turns in a fine performance as Lieutenant Commander Tom Farrell of the Office of Naval Intelligence who gets caught up in a political scandal involving the Secretary of Defense David Brice (Gene Hackman). The film is based on the novel 'The Big Clock' by Kenneth Fearing and the element of time, or more precisely time running out, is what makes this action thriller such gripping viewing. As the movie progresses, the world around Commander Farrell closes in and he finds himself with the possibility of being trapped in a corner with no way out. With the clock ticking, we start to empathise with his plight and pray that he, being innocent, will get off the hook, while his tormentors will get their comeuppance. The end has a nice twist, making the 114 min runtime a worthwhile journey. There are consummate performances from Costner, Hackman, Sean Young and Will Patton. The soundtrack, too, by Maurice Jarre is great and enhances the thrills onscreen. Paul Anka sings the title song. Film critic Roger Ebert, not an easy man to please, gave the film a perfect 4 out of 4 stars, which definitely tells you something about the quality of this film. Definitely recommended.

A great thriller with tension, twists and top quality acting.
People's views on this 1987 American political thriller usually revolve around what they make of the final twist which comes a few minutes from the end of the movie. It certainly upends your views of the main characters and there are only a few clues in the earlier events which hint at it. That makes the final twist rather jarring and for me, therefore, all the more enjoyable especially as once you know it, some of the apparently improbable coincidences earlier in the story become much more believable as the result of someone's deliberate positioning of themselves. But even if you don't like the final twist, there's much to enjoy in the run up, all of which is based on the novel The Big Clock with the key idea of the central character (an American naval officer played by Kevin Costner in the movie) finding themselves in charge of an investigation to identify someone... who in fact they know secretly is themselves. Gene Hackman's acting as the American politician however steals the movie for me, with its adept showing of both the good and bad sides of politicians, making his character a plausible flawed human and neatly switching between gravitas and shrunken vulnerability as the plot progresses. The different ways he sits in his office chair to match the changing character are a brilliant little demonstration of acting skill.

Another great movie with the infamous Kevin Costner and Gene Hackman❣️ Two great actor’s of all time. And we lost Gene Hackman to death in 2025 too. How very very sad indeed. RIP 🪦 Gene Hackman❣️💝

really refreshing. I don't have to say anything about storyline, screenplay, direction and acting- it should be known to most. But it came as a fresh breeze from the past. I love the movie.
