Truly unique flavour and colour
I’m delighted to be able to buy these distinctive onions online. They’re a little more expensive than the onions you see in supermarkets, but there’s a good reason for that. They only grow in a particular soil type in the Roscoff area of France and they have a unique flavour and are a delicate pink in colour. They’re hand strung and they look amazing on the plait. It’s believed that the onion sellers who travelled around on bicycles selling onions originated from this region. The taste is sweeter than most onions ( some Spanish onions have a sweetness, but not like these). They’re almost good enough to eat as they are. They can be used in any way that you’d normally use onions, but I like them raw in a sandwich or chopped and added to a dressing. They’re also great lightly braised with a little seasoning, as a side dish, or with a creamy white wine sauce. They keep well and I really like them.
