Good tool, hard work!
A good quality implement, at a decent price. I used it to dig post holes, going down around 2 and a half feet. The only problem is removing the loose earth - I found myself on my knees, first with a trowel and then with my bare hands. No great problem, as I only had four posts to put in. If you have a lot of holes to dig, it may be worth investing in a post hole digger which also removes the soil such as: Draper Expert 10898 Heavy-Duty Post Hole Digger with Ash Handle (other similar products are available!) Even so, this would still come in handy - it made short work of some stubborn tree roots, and is also great at dislodging any stones you may come across. Make sure you're reasonably fit if you're going to use this thing. Don't be fooled by the quoted weight of 3.4kg, this bar must be two or three times heavier than that, and it's very hard work! 'Elf 'n' safety: I would strongly advise investing in a cheap pair of steel-toed safety boots (I picked up a pair for under twenty quid). This tool is extremely sharp and extremely heavy, and we tend to lose concentration when tired... it's NOT something you would want to land on your toes! The same goes for the tamping bar on the opposite end -- if you are tamping, then the end with the blade will be very close to your face. Take care! If I had one criticism of this bar, it would be the very thin powder coating, which began rubbing off even with the relatively light use I put it too, exposing the steel to rust. So my advice would be to clean/dry it off as soon as possible and spray with something like WD40 to keep it in tip top condition. Happy digging!

Genuinely Useful Digging Implement
Great implement - hard to fault. This is just what I needed to help me dig 26 holes for planting trees in soil full of flint rocks the size of your fist. I also had a row of small trees to uproot. This thing went through them like a dose of salts. A heck of a lot easier than using a pick, a spade or a fork. Stick it in under the roots and lever them straight out of the ground. Really unbeatable. It smashes through anything effortlessly. It's a beast. So much more accurate than swinging a pick axe, and allows you to dig deep, narrow holes and keep the sides perfectly vertical. Go around the outside of the hole and lever in towards the centre then use it to lever the soil loose in the centre and shovel it out. Couldn't be simpler. It's solid enough to stand as much levering force as you can put into it. The 'pommel' end is very useful for tamping around the base of a post once driven home by a post driver. Really sets a post firmly into even the loosest earth. The only issue is the weight. It's essentially a 6ft solid steel bar with a hardened blade on one end. You're going to need strong arms to use it for any length of time. Gives you a great workout though, and cheaper than a gym membership.

Most durable tool
Good weight. Strong bar. Does not bend, buckle, chip. Destroyer of earth and stones. None can stand before the immortal bar of smash everything!

Great digging tool to have for challenging soil
Very good tool for digging through flint and clay even if you're an older woman doing it on your own. I manage two 40 cm holes to install metal fixings for a shade sail. The weight of it definitely helps breaking up flint and brick and the other end is great for tamping down when backfilling. Together with an auger it was the perfect match to get the job done.

Brilliant multipurpose tool !!!
This is a HEAVY item, in the region of 16lbs, so make sure you have your weetabix before using it, oh and invest in some safety boots and goggles, (especially if smashing concrete). I have used it to for digging post holes for a fence, to cut through tree roots, to smash concrete and also to lift out tree stumps and large chunks of concrete, been using it for around 4 months now. I opted for this type of digging bar, with a tamper end as opposed to the type with a pointed end, as this was much more useful as an alternative to a sledge hammer when smashing large areas of concrete. By the way you can go through four inches of concrete without the use of power tools with this thing quite easily (maybe 6 inches, if you are sturdily built or stand on a platform if your short, it's a physics thing, I can't explain it !!). My technique was that I would firstly send a shockwave through the concrete by hitting the ground with the blunt end which would crack the concrete at a weak point and then I would use a brick as a pivot and use the bar as a see-saw type thing to lift the concrete slab and then place another brick/rock underneath the slab (taking care to have enough weight on the other end of the bar to keep the slab up) to prop it off the ground at one end, withdraw the bar and then use the tamper end to smash the raised slab of concrete into manageable chunks. For those who have said that the chisel end needs to be sharper to cut through tree roots, they may be right, but this may weaken the tip and may mean it becomes prone to snapping. So I am happy with my puchase, wish I'd invested in one ages ago. But be warned, if you're not used to lifting heavy weights you will definitely feel achy the day after using it. Alternatively, If you don't have time to go to the gym, and you have some concrete to smash, this provides an exceptional upper body workout!!

Corner cutting, par for the course.
I purchased one of these a few years ago. The more recent purchase, the bar is six inches shorter, the tamping end has been lost 30 percent of its mass, and the chisel is a lot more narrow. They just can't help it! Consumed by avarice!

Sehr empfehlenswert!
