Quite a good read.
I found I wanted to continue reading to see how Lawrence was dealt with. Much went as expected in regards to the rest of the book. A good light read.

Interesting, complex read.
I am a big fan of Di Morrissey's and this book was terrific. Bali is not a place that appeals to me - too many drunk tourists for my liking, but I might have to rethink it after reading this book. There are still pockets of the real Bali to be found, I am sure, and I enjoyed reading the bits about Bali back in the old days that were vividly brought to life via T'kut's book (although, I'm sure, like some other Aussies, I thought about the ad when I read the name "T'kut"). Grace is in a marriage with Lawrence and has an adorable little girl, Daisy. Nothing is as it seems with Lawrence though and Grace needs all her strength as well as the friendship of all sorts of diverse people in order to get things done that need doing. I loved the relationship Grace had with her mum, Tina. What a character she was. This author has the knack of talking about relationships in all its forms in a realistic and yet interesting way. I never know which way her books are going to go! A very nice read, although I was a bit surprised Grace was as naive as she was, considering that in her work life she was a highly competent professional. 4.5 stars from me.

Realistic
A good read, Di has really made the story real and believable. Difficult to put down fearing the worst would happen.

An effort to get through
This would have to be the most boring book I've ever read! Very little happens, and words seem to be used to pointlessly fill up the book, describing the most banal actions. I persevered to about 40%, then kept fast forwarding a few pages until I was at 90% and realized still nothing interesting had happened. My first and last time reading anything by this author.

Thrilled to find a Di Morrissey book i hadnt read, and yes it was a good read from one of australias best writers. He characters are always beleivable and engaging, the plot always feasable, and a little bit of nature that adds magic to the story.

This was only the second Di Morrissey novel I have read and although I enjoyed this story I definitely wasn't as captivated with this as much as her earlier book, The Plantation. This was a great story for being able to read when I had a few minutes to fill rather than being totally absorbed for hours. I loved that the book was mostly set in Bali (a destination I had last visited nearly 30 years ago) and I really love stories that jump between contemporary and historic timeframes and this story did just that. I must admit I really wanted the main character Grace to "stick it" to her husband and so quite enjoyed the read to unravel what he was all about. Overall I think this story was really enjoyable.

LDi Morrissey always writes well. Her knowledge of a country’s culture is excellent together with a good story woven through the book

Too trite and predictable. Having read all of Di Morriseys books I have found the last few lack the substance of her earlier books. I counted some of the early books as extremely readable and clever.

Di Morrissey never disappoints. Her attention to detail and history provide numerous layers to the main story line. The Last Paradise tells the story of Grace who finds the world she knew gone and through family and good friends finds the strength to fight for her rights and recover the strong woman she was before she as undermined by her narcissistic husband. Most of this in an idyllic Balinese setting. Underlying the present is the true story of K'tut Tantri, a little known but hugely influential Western woman who helped shape an Independent Indonesia. A good and informative novel on every level.
