Blu-Ray DVD Optical Drive Laser with Empty Shell Metal Module Replacement Compatible with Sony PlayStation 5 PS5 KEM-497AAA (fit CFI- 1015A 1000)

I figured this (not being the detachable disc drive of the slim models it would have to come from another PS5) that the drive would be used, but this disc drive was scuffed up on the sides, bent edges, and the most annoying being one screw was filed down and left unscrewable, as if you aren't allowed to open it up to look inside. You need to open it up to swap out the daughter board with your own daughter board from the original drive for your PS5 to work. So I had to use needle nose pliers to slowly twist it out from the bottom, a real pain in the butt! And after all that my discs are still unreadable. I don't know what else is the problem other than opening the drive again and cleaning the laser lense, which I didn't do yet...but my frustration just longs for my money back...

In my PS5, the optical drive wouldn't work. My first step was removing the optical drive and cleaning the laser, but unfortunately that didn't work. I decided in purchasing the LeHang part that this review is about. The casing has both the optical drive and daughter board. I replaced the optical drive from my original casing with the one in the part I ordered. (Note, the daughter board is keyed to your PS5's mother board, so don't use the daughter board that you get in the ordered part.) My PS5 is up and running like new.

I bought this towards the end of September, installed as per Terry G. Worked fine for awhile, now it's making a noise and back to the same code on the PS5 as before, not able to update again. Waste of 90 bucks in my opinion, not sure the reason, but now my PS5 is a paper weight again

Review is for LeHang Blu-Ray DVD Optical Drive Laser with Empty Shell Metal Module Replacement... Had our PS5 drive stop working and reading discs, so looked for a replacement drive. Here is how to replace it and get it working again: 1. Do research on how to open the PS5 and get access to the drive. Not hard at all. Keep track of the different size screws to reverse what you did to put it back together correctly. 2. Make sure you buy the correct drive for your PS5 model. We have the original PS5, so not sure what changed between models. 3. You will need to remove the old drive, and take out the daughter board that the drive is connected to, so you will need to open up the metal shell and remove the board. 4. Open up the new drive, and take out the daughter board that comes with it. It won't work if you just replace the drive with a new drive. The daughter board is tied to the internal motherboard to protect Sony's encryption/security scheme. 5. replace the new daughter board with your old one, and close up the metal clam shell 6. mount the new drive into the PS5 and close it all up, making sure to connect all the data/power cable and ribbon cables correctly. 7. Enjoy your new blu-ray drive and a working PS5 once again. 8. Your bank account will love the fact that you didn't send it in to Sony for fixing. I think others may be having trouble thinking this is just plug and play. It won't work if you don't swap out the daughter board. Take your time and do it right for best results. I dropped one star only because there are no instructions. Use mine instead.

Had my ps5 for 3 years and the disk drive just stopped working. Bought this and boom it works. FYI make sure to get as much information as possible( read Terry G review, he is on point), the whole process difficult: medium

4/20/2025 This disc drive was heavily used and banged up when I got it. The packaging was in perfect shape, not the fault of delivery. -One of the mounting brackets was bent and banged out of shape, -There were black scuff marks all over outer casing, -Silver seal sticker was broken -Felt lining on the disk intake was peeling off. Definitely scrapped from another trash console but was not advertised or priced as such. Same quality but lower price can be found else where.

Zero stars l, installed product and it did not work. Not once. Immediately said cant recognize disc.

Drive casing was a bit scuffed up but absolutely 100% functional. I swapped out the board and casing with my drive and put my PS5 back together. Works perfectly! Amazing fix for a next day shipped product.

Returned the item. The disc drive had the screws loose and looked really banged up. Definitely not a new unit.

Works, swapped into my PS5. Definitely a used part, probably salvaged from broken PS5s. So just know this isn’t a brand new part, but if your disc drive is broken, grab one of these and you’ll be good to go. One of the screw housings was broken on this unit I ordered, so I swapped out the frame of this disc drive with my original one and it’s all good. As another review mentioned make sure you swap the small daughter (mother) board from your PS5s disc drive with this one. Your original disc drive daughter board needs to stay with the PS5s motherboard.

Product came kinda scuffed up, so i believe it must be used. You need to take the parts that sync with your motherboard from the old drive and use them instead of what came with the drive. One of the connectors was not the same, so I had to cut the wires and use my old connector to make a connection. Going strong for a few weeks now.
