Double 180 gram vinyl LP pressing in gatefold jacket. Motown released the first Marvin Gaye record in 1961. Gaye scored his first real hit with 'Stubborn Kind of Fellow' in 1962, which he had co-written himself, joking about his alleged stubbornness. The foundations were now laid for an enormous series of chart successes: 'Pride And Joy', 'Can I Get A Witness', 'How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)' and 'Ain't That Peculiar' are all Motown classics from 1963-1965 which are still being regularly played today after all these years. The duets he recorded with Kim Weston ('It Takes Two') and especially Tammi Terrell were certainly at least as good. He scored his biggest ever hit with 'I Heard It Through The Grapevine' in 1968. The 'What's Going On' from the same named album became a number 1 hit in the USA and the album was received as a masterpiece everywhere and is now regarded as one of the most important records in pop history. In 1973, the artistically and commercially very successful, Let's Get It On album was mainly a musical ode to Marvin's love for his new muse Janis Hunter. The pop world lost one of the most important soul singers ever to grace the world on 1st April 1984. He has left behind a series of fantastic hits plus a big handful of tracks which deserve the title of masterpiece, all collected on this album. Review: Wonderful album! - Fantastic album! Review: The vinyl's black. The product is excellent. - This double vinyl is an excellent career retrospective for Marvin Gaye, if a little concise. There are tracks on here I haven't heard before and that you don't see very often. The Masquerade is over is the earliest track, and gives us an idea of the crooning career Marvin would have liked to have early on. Heavy Love Affair and Sanctified are tracks from albums that only the most ardent fans are likely to have (the two on either side of the Midnight Love album which included Sexual Healing). Nearly every choice is fantastic; I probably didn't need the duet with Diana Ross (You are Everything); I might have swapped that with a track from Here, My Dear, which is not represented. The vinyl is flat, quiet, and heavy and the sound is excellent. If you only buy one MG album on vinyl, this would be a great choice. One other note - I notice the only one-star reviews are from people who were upset that it didn't arrive on blue vinyl. So, please take note that the vinyl is black.

Classic
What can one really say about an LP of Marvin Gaye? It’s perfect, just like his music always has been. I grew up with my mother singing these songs (she has a great voice) and when I put this on, it brings me back to my childhood and her telling me stories of working at a soul station in Jackson, MS in her late teens/early twenties. The music on this LP is carefully chosen out of the overall collection, picking mainstream songs that most people have probably heard, making this album a must-have for newbies and diehards alike. I love all types of music, and was raised with music in the house from both of my musical parents, but I find myself drawn to a few favorites time and time again. In my new house with my fiancé, I knew we had to have a record player, and I purchased only about 10 LPs that had special meaning to me. This is one of those and I love it! Record sound is so different from cds or streaming. It’s richer, deeper, and more round somehow. If you are a true music lover, I would highly recommend this album of favorites!

Exceptional Album and Pressing
I love the Music On Vinyl "Collected" series. This is a high quality pressing, which is advertised as audiophile quality and I would agree. Everything from the dust jacket to the album weight scream quality On top of that, this is a collection of some Marvin's greatest works and the sound quality is amazing. Highly recommend.

King Of DC! God bless with man
Sheeshhh!!! Talk about in your emotions/feelings.. Marvin Gaye sets the mood every time and his sound recreate an image of Marvin’s Room. Some of the sides you feel like you’re actually in the studio. This vinyl is my gem aka my favorite! Its moves chronologically (in order): Side One tracks are his early classics that I’m a bit familiar with... innocent Marvin is what I like to think about. Side Two is still a bit innocent but more grown... it’s has his early cemented classics that you’ll hear on commercials, tv episodes, and so forth. A lot of his great works was with Tammi Terrell (RIP). Side Three is his grieving of Terrell (past away at 24 .. so sad) + social issues... towards the end Gaye gets back in his love groove, but way less innocent. Great way to transition to Side 4 Side Four is ... well just watch out, lol baby making music right there!!! This is my favorite purchase yet... have over +50 vinyls and oncoming. Check my other reviews! James Brown, the Internet, Pink Floyd, Selena and so much more!

Good Starting Point for the Uninitiated
I ordered this knowing the name Marvin Gaye, and a few of his songs but not much about his entire discography. After a couple play throughs of this, I’ve come to appreciate Marvin Gaye much more, and started exploring his music. This album samples from across his career, and you can hear the evolution over time. That was great for me because I don’t particularly enjoy his early stuff, but greatly enjoy his later work. I think this is a great choice for someone that isn’t sure necessarily where to start and wants a Marvin Gaye 101 album.

Exceptional sound!
Outstanding collection of the best of Marvin Gaye spread over 3 discs. This pretty much covers his entire career. The last disc has some of the duets he did. And the best part of the whole thing is the sound is exceptional. A lot of discs that have a lot of songs on them; the sound is really compressed. Not so with this collection. Worth every penny!
