I've been using this pinpointer for a while now. Some users have had a couple of complaints about this unit. I actually consider the weaknesses they mention as strengths. The two most common complaints are, 1) The buttons are too hard to push and 2) since it uses VLF instead of whatever the other technology most units use, the side detecting is non existent. Addressing the first issue, I find the button stiffness advantageous because I have used units where the buttons are too easy to push, increasing the possibility of accidentally changing the settings or turning the unit off. That is not a possibility with this unit. As for the VLF. I find it easier to actually find whats in the hole. It's easy to tell if the target is in the wall or bottome or wherever. It points straight at the target. Other units can detect the target sideways and straight down which, at least to me, a little more difficult to actually pinpoint the target. Now that those isssues have beeen addressed I will make mention of what I really like about this unit. First and foremost.....the smart holster. I hate turning a pinpointer on and off every time I need it. The Quest holster allows you to leave the unit on continually and it goes to sleep when it is holstered and wakes up when unholstered. The only thing I wish Quest would have done is to angle the end of the holster where it would "funnel" the unit into the hole. Instead, it takes a second or two or three to insert the end of the unit, screaming the entire time, into the hole. Second, this is the loudest pinpointer I have ever used. The volume is adjustable. Even at its lowest setting I can just about guarantee you that it is the loudest unit you will have ever used. You can disable the volume altogether and rely on vibration or visual or both or all three if you like. Third, The discrimination feature is nice. Although, sometimes it will register ferrous until you get closer to the target. Sometimes the reverse is true. Most times it is spot on. All in all.....a great unit if it holds up. If I had one complaint other than the holster hole, it would be that the visual indicator is small and hard to see. Those too things aside.....a great unit. Probably the best I have ever used.

This is very easy to use when out treasure hunting. It's a good value, built well and it's very durable. It is waterproof and the accuracy is very good. It has pin point precision.

The company advertises these pinpointers as a “tip-only” detection. That is not true for the pinpointer I purchased. The one I purchased detects from the end of the tip up to about a 1/4 inch. It goes silent for awhile, but then it starts beeping again from the letter “E” on the post all the way to the handle side of the display screen. See attached video to understand what I am referring to. I did not return this pinpointer because this is the only company selling pinpointers with tip-only detection and other very useful features all-in-one device. With a little modification of the detection area, I’d say it is the ultimate pinpointer. Tip-only detection saves a me a lot of time. IMO, this is a good deal for what you get. It has target notching, a ferrous (green)/non-ferrous (red) indicator lights, an on/off holster, and an inactive locator beep. I haven’t used it much, so I am not sure how accurate these features are. This pinpointer turns on with a quick press of the power button. Turning off is not as easy since the button feels “stiff” and must be held for 1-2 seconds. The turn off may be inconvenient, but it will not accidentally turn off while detecting. This is the first pinpointer I have seen with a holster that can “temporarily turn off the device” while in the holster. What a great feature! That will definitely save some time! I just think the hole should be a bit bigger, but maybe it can’t with the design of the feature. The company also included tip protectors, which is important to minimize tip damage.

The xpointer max arrived fast and in pristine condition. Looks and feels like a solid pinpointer. Loud beeps and strong vibration. Will beep on gold plating and small gold. Will update after use in the field.
