Multifunctional brackets A++
I initially bought them with the intention of using them as handrail brackets for panels on the backyard pergola. But because of how easy and nice they looked, I ordered more and used them in a side pergola in the entry doorframe and in the front yard as a fence line divider. Highly recommend these it you want to use it in different projects and making everything matches the flow. It was nice to slide the panels into the brackets. The screws were very good quality as well. The fit, value and multi purpose use definitely made me a satisfied user.

They do not match the advertising images. Much better!
I ordered a bunch of these brackets to attach the rails of my new deck to the vertical 4x4's. What I hadn't noticed when I bought them are the discrepancies of the pictures used to advertise them. I was simply going by the numbers. If you take a closer look at the advertised images, the oversize brackets are larger than the 2x4 lumber they are supposed to hold. When they arrived I was extremely happy with the quality of these braces. They are anything but flimsy. Ive included a few pictures I took when they arrived. When I get my deck finished, I will add to the pictures here. First thing to know is that they each weigh about 76g and perfectly fit a standard 2x4. The brace has a full 1/4 inch thick plate with a full 13/16 inch depth from face to back. Top to bottom, they are 4 inches and are 2 1/2 inches wide. When making measurements for cutting rails, take into account the extra 1/2 inch that each set adds to the ends of a rail. (1/4 inch on each end) Knowing this, I may router out a 1/4 inch of wood from each post to set these in for added strength and durability over the years. As for installing these brackets, they get screwed onto the ends of each rail using 2 screws, then 4 more screws attach each bracket to the vertical posts on each end. Just remember when measuring the rails you plan to use to account for the extra 1/2 inch of length they add per rail.

Great product but ...
This product made the installation of my deck railing so much easier. Great design and each piece fit well. Works well for flat or angles, as advertised. My only complaint is with the screws. At least 20% of them were bent. It was not enough that they couldn't be used but it did make it a bit difficult to use some of them. Additionally, many of the square slots were not deep enough and it was very difficult to keep the bit in the head.

One Minor Issue
As you can see in the photos, these will work with any size 2x lumber (2x4, 2x6, 2x8, etc.). I chose to go with a 2x6 on the bottom for added support and because visually, I think having the additional mass on the bottom is more appealing. The top 2x4 is supposed to support the top rail and prevent it from sagging, but there's one small problem. In some cases, the bracket is slightly taller than the 2x4. It depends on how wet the pressure treated lumber is. I forgot to measure, but if the 2x4 is 3-1/2", the bracket must be 3-5/8 inches, so the 2x4 doesn't quite make contact with the bottom of the guard rail. That means I have to jump on the miter saw to trim 1/8" off of the bracket. No big deal, and it's not the case with every 2x4 since the lumber dimensions can vary, but if I was the designer of this bracket I'd be kicking myself for that one oversight. This is only an issue though if you're screwing from the top down through the guard rail into the 2x4 like I am and you don't want to see a gap. Check out the prototype I made in the photos. The end result is going to be a pretty beefy guard rail. By the way, the pink spindles are fiberglass rebar (called pinkbar, or FIBERGLASS REINFORCED POLYMER REBAR FRP Rebar) sold at the home improvement store. It comes in 10' lengths which is perfect for my 24" spindles. The cost works out to $1.36 per spindle. It can be cut with a miter or table saw and painted, is cheaper than steel, won't rust, is lightweight, and is sturdy enough for this application. If you kick it, it will give then bend back into shape. I've kicked it pretty hard and it has not snapped. I cut it with a rebar cutter and that was a mistake because it crushed and splintered on me. As for spindles, the last thing I want to see after all this work is pressure treated wood spindles warping all over the place. The other negative with these brackets (and it's a small one), is that the bracket creates a gap between the butt end of the 2x6 and the post. So if that bothers you, you'll need to notch every 2x6 for a tight fit. I didn't and the guard rail looks just fine. The small gap is not a big deal. Other than that, I'm sold on these brackets. They look really cool and create a solid connection. I used about 110 brackets on my project and will be using the same bracket on my next deck project. 06/24/2023: As a followup, now that my project is complete, I can offer some advice for anyone looking to duplicate this guard rail design. When you're drilling the holes in the 2x, the hole in the 2x6 on the bottom should be about 1" in depth, but the hole in the 2x4 on the top should be about 3". This way, you can affix both 2x to the posts with these brackets, then slide the rebar upwards into the 2x4, then downward into the 2x6, and you're done. For a few sections, I was drilling too deep into the bottom and so my spindles were too short, so I had to fill in the hole with pebbles. And I was inserting the rebar into the bottom all at once making a giant comb, then lowering the top 2x4 onto the comb, which was a huge hassle and very frustrating trying to get the rebar into the holes, left to right. Trust me, deep hole on top, shallow hole on the bottom, and the job will go much smoother. Also, squirt some caulking into the bottom hole for rot protection. I used 2 tubes on this project. And if using the 3/8" pink bar, start the hole using a 7/16" Forstner bit for a clean hole, but for speed, finish the upper 3" hole with a regular bit.

These are brilliant and cheap compared to DIY stores. Be aware though, they are 2inch not metric equivalent. They look very smart against natural wood posts.

Refreshed our deck and rebuilt the handrails fall 2023 . This kit made the job so easy. Quality parts and yes even the screws are of excellent quality. What makes this kit so nice to work with is it makes the job easier and small miscalculations in cuts are easily hidden. Final results is a professional look. Very happy with results and would definitely buy again. Just went through a cold Canadian winter and now in April, reviewing the construction, everything looks like the day it was built.
