Robert Louis Stevenson's TREASURE ISLAND gets a futuristic twist in this amazing tale of a brave young man's thrilling journey to new frontiers aboard a flying ship. The greatest adventure of all time is now even better on Blu-ray. TREASURE PLANET 10th Anniversary Edition is a new experience for a new generation! Review: Visually Stunning Sci-Fi! - John Musker and Ron Clements’ 2002 animated film, “Treasure Planet,” is the 43rd Disney animated feature and adapts Robert Louis Stevenson’s 1881-1882 novel, “Treasure Island,” in a space opera setting. The story focuses on young Jim Hawkins (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), who comes into possession of a map to Captain Flint’s Treasure Planet. He sets out to find the treasure in order to prove to his mother (Laurie Metcalf) that he’s not a juvenile delinquent and to rebuild her boarding house. Joining him is Dr. Delbert Doppler (David Hyde Pierce), an astronomer. They charter the RLS Legacy, captained by Amelia (Emma Thompson) and seen to by her first mate, Mr. Arrow (Roscoe Lee Browne). Hawkins meets John Silver (Brian Murray), a cyborg, and his companion Morph (Dane Davis). Later, the encounter the abandoned robot B.E.N. (Martin Short), who resembles Robin Williams’ portrayal of the Genie in “Aladdin.” Tying this film to earlier works of the Disney Renaissance, Tony Jay voices the narrator after previously providing voices for “Beauty and the Beast” and “The Hunchback of Notre Dame.” Aesthetically, the only sci-fi franchise I can compare it to is “Doctor Who” since it blends Victorian-era costumes and institutions with extraterrestrials, robots, and spaceships. The ships resemble nineteenth-century ships of the line, with giant solar sails and rocket engines, but the characters are able to stand on deck even in the vacuum of space. “Treasure Planet” was part of a unique era in animation right around the turn of the millennium, where films began experimenting with style or blending styles, leading to works like “Titan A.E.” and “Atlantis: The Lost Empire.” These films were all ahead of their time and are worthy of appreciation not only for what they created but for their place in animation history. Unfortunately, “Shrek” came out in 2001 and changed what people expected of animated films for half a decade. Review: Excellent story with a technically dazzling look - Buying this movie on Blu-ray was a decision that my daughter and I made to add to our collection of cherrished films. It had been 7 or 8 years since we had viewed the film on VHS. 1080p quality, surround sound, and Blu-ray enhancement have made this film more of a masterpiece of this lesser known classic. The casting for this film is dead on with the voices matching characters perfectly. The animation is cutting edge in its design and the color contrast of the film gives it a razor sharp visual experience. The story, even with Disney's twist, is timeless, the characters are well developed, and the subtle twists of world history make the film enjoyable for the young and the young at heart. The film pays homage to great literature and to science fiction of the 20th C This film will age well if you add it to your collection as it is NOT one in which bizarre or surprise type ending would only allow you to enjoy it for only the first time. The original reviews for this movie were luke-warm but it is not only worth giving a look but it is a must-have for your Disney collection.

I got this movie when it first came out, when i was in second grade or so, and after that, I had viewed this movie so many times since, that it in the end was broken for to much use, and probably not caring for it too much - we were children who can blame us? So I recently found this Gift Set coming along with that novel, and I as a fresh reader wanted something physical in my hand to read instead of all the e-books, and then what could have been better then getting the novel that was made into the greatest movie of my childhood as well as the movie itself? The movie is great! It simply is nothing more the spectacular! The animations and background designs are all beyond its time! The story as well is really great and touching; making me cry every time. Containing about everything you want in a movie; Action, emotions, love and adventure. I also love the soundtrack, though it is not included, the movie will of course play the music occasionally, and it is just wonderful! Really capturing the story and feelings in the movie, as well as the pirate-theme. The book was beyond my imaginations! I have not completed it just yet, but it is wonderfully written with really good techniques as well as the way Louis write, to really catch your attention and not wanting to just stop reading it through. It is like you are living the story itself. As for the game, I have not tried it as my intensions of this purchase was more for just the movie and book, but for the two alone, it is really worth it, and I recommend every nostalgic fan of this movie, or curious persons, to buy this gift set to continue watching the movie, as well as reading the story behind it.
