Second one i've had & still very good
Super item and useful to mount your GPS. I have a TomTom Rider 2 and this is the second motorbike (both Honda VFR800's) I have fit this mounting device to. I do think the instructions could be better and it is a bit fiddly to fix on but when it's done it really does it's job well. Couldn't recommend anything better for mounting GPS to a motorbike.

Satisfied with the product but could do with some easy improvements.
I fitted this on my bike in conjunction with the ram arm and ram phone mount. Really good system, really confident in the security of my phone whilst riding and a great idea. I must admit though I don't feel overly satisfied with the instructions of installation (there was a lot of vagueness that someone could easily misinterpret) and actual quality of the screw that tightens into the stem is a bit poor. I'm also not sure if this is right but my mount still rotates even though tightened up. It won't come off because the lug beneath the mount is nice and tight but it does rotate.

but it wasn’t as secure as i’d like, so i decided to take a gamble and ...
Admittedly, I very rarely write product reviews. But I had to make an exception with this stem mount. So I did a bit of research on this mount before buying it, and noticed that many people struggled to get this mount to fit their bikes, with the vast majority of the complaints stating that the mount was either not secure or kept moving swinging around whilst something was on it. I had a mount before, but it wasn’t as secure as i’d like, so i decided to take a gamble and get a RAM mount. It might be just me, but the instructions are not that clear on how to install this thing…luckily i saw many youtube videos of people installing this mount, so i had a good idea of what needed to be done before opening the box. Now i struggled installing this, and i had the exact same issue where once the screw was tight enough, the ball mount was still freely moving around. Took me a while to figure this out (AND TO ANYONE PURCHASING THIS PRODUCT PLEASE DO NOT BE DISHEARTENED AND READ THIS). Before doing anything. Make sure that the screw and the locking nut that come in the pack thread in freely. The apparent issue was that the locking nut would get caught 1/3 of the way up the screw and jam up at which point it would stop compressing the rubber and instead spinning around itself. Luckily i had a replacement locking nut that literally spun on the screw like a fidget spinner all the way to the end. I used that locking nut instead and now it fit perfectly to the bike as intended.

Fitment can be a challenge
Ram make very good mounts for most mobiles and sat nav ,however the fitting is not straight forward and I would ask Ram to do some more R&D on fitment. The problem is, the instructions make it look like its plug and play, I had the problem where you tighten the 3mm Allen key bolt to make the mount sturdy and stop it from spinning inside the fork stem, the nut pulled right through the nylon or plastic stud grip, and came out the top, what they should tell you is, and probably supply with the kit a small tube of adhesive, so you will need assemble the ball mount as per instructions, but before you push it down into your forkstem ,is to have a good quality adhesive that sticks rubber to metal, like Gorila or similar, and apply to the inside of the wall of the forkstem and the the rubber grommet and then insert into the forstem, and tighten the 3mm Allen key bolt to a reasonable amount and leave for 24Hrs once this has been done, the mount is rock solid ,but make sure you have positioned the ball mount exactly where you want it, as there is no going back once you have followed the above, it is a great idea from Ram to have the ball mount in the forkstem, they just need to go back and do some R&D to make it 100% 😉

Terrible design and does not perform as required
You have to cut the rubber section to the correct length, following these instructions the device does not grip the internal smooth surface of the yoke, it makes it impossible to tighten as it just spins. Had to add additional slithers of rubber to the original piece, then tighten before pushing into yoke, even then you had to force it into the yoke, it still spins. I tried different methods possibly 20 attemps, 2 hours wasted, it would still spin in the yoke. Should have bought a metal fitting like ultimateaddons, I had this on another bike, simple design and holds tight, simple and effective. This one is a waste of money, time and effort

Ram Mount
Plastic coated mount ball and bracket very good but fork stem clamping system very poor, it does not work, come on Ram this is rubbish sort it out and supply a correct size bush for each diameter instead of trying to cut corners with a plastic bush that has to be cut to suit, it doesn't work. i own an engineering workshop so was able to make a split aluminium bush as supplied by some other manufacturers of this type of clamp and it now clamps as expected. If you ignore my review and buy the product and then wish you hadn't contact me tel 01454 294534 and i can make you a clamp bush that works at a small cost.

Fitted well on Honda CBR600F4i (2001)
Purchased for a 2001 Honda CBR600F4i to mount an iPhone onto the fork stem. I used the maximum width of the slimmer section of rubber for the mount and once under pressure with the compression screw it holds like glue. Feels very solid. Purchased an extension arm separately for additional flexibility in placing the iPhone so it has better clearance from the tank and I can still see the instruments.

Sturdy.
Good mount but not easy to fit to a Triumph Street Triple, I had chop a small amount off the end of the base plate and remove the bars to fit it. All in all probably designed for bikes with a more accessible stem, but does work brilliantly once fitted.

This is the simplest stem mount I've seen. It uses an expansion sleeve to hold it in the stem and goes on solid when sized correctly. I like this over others since I can still use my triple clamp front bike stand with it installed. Initially I wasn't in love with how high the phone sits, but I'm used to it now and have it positioned so it's just below my gauge cluster. Had this about a year now, no issues. Had to remove it today to adjust my head bearings. It was a little bit of a pain to reinstall due to the hard rubber compound but, I managed to get it tightened up. Added a picture of it trimmed down to fit my 2014 Yamaha R1 stem.

It provides a ball mount and since it's offset you can get the phone to sit just where you want it. It is a bit tall though. My bike is an R1 from 2016. The installation process is pretty bad. Cutting the rubber insert to size is fine, but getting the pre-tension just right before installing it into the stem is a terrible design. Too tight and the rubber will fray at the top as you try to insert the assembly. Too lose and you won't be able to tighten it into the stem as the rubber wont grip the inside firmly enough. It took many attempts to get it to grip and even now I can still manually turn it using some force. I'll probably replace it in the future with something better.
