Amtech U4250 Tungsten Carbide Multi Sharpener with Oiler

It’s a great little sharpener but I wouldn’t use it to sharpen any kind of kitchen knives, you would better off using a whetstone. The sharpener is easy to use but there’s a learning curve to it and you’ll need to practise with it; do be careful when using the sharpener as you don’t want to use excessive force otherwise you will dull the 90 degree edge of the carbide and render it less effective. The sharpener is great for sharpening scissors, garden shears and especially anything with a recurve cutting edge for example a karambit. Overall this is good little sharpener to keep.

Has sharpened my knifes. But hasn't worked too well on garden tools. Will give it another go tho. As they were very blunt.

My kitchen draw is cluttered with all different kinds of knife sharpeners and none of them seem to work that well, this Amtech sharpener has rubbished the lot of them. It's so easy to use and can't get over how much sharper my knives are compared with my old sharpeners, have even used it on garden shears and now can't imagin life without it, would highly recommend to anyone.

To be honest as first I wasn't impressed as my garden shears were very blunt and they didn't seem to help. However, I persevered and found that after using as described, for longer than I originally thought, it does indeed help to sharpen them. I've no doubt there are easier ways to sharpen your garden tools, but as this is a small tool and cheap to buy it does the job.

I attached this sharpener to a ten inch ferro rod using some jute twine. After more than 30 years using multiple fire steels and strikers, this sharpener is by far the most effective striker I have ever used. Not only that, but it is also extremely comfortable to hold, even with gloves on. The main purpose of this device is of course to sharpen blades on tools like hedge trimmers, etc, but for me its sharpening ability is just a bonus. The oil applicator in the handle is another one, which is excellent if using this sharpener on knives (use some caution here, and I recommend only on larger fixed blade knives of the type used for bushcraft). And the jute twine...the perfect cord that can be used as a tinder. Altogether an excellent combination for outdoors and woodsy types!
