Amtech S0540 A4 Cutting mat

This very reasonably priced cutting mat is a must-have item for any crafty card maker, or papercraft enthusiast. I bought it to replace my old mat, that has had many years of use, and I am very happy to say that it is great quality for the price. The cutting surface is ultra smooth, but not slippery, and even glossy photo type paper sits on the surface of the mat without wanting to slither away, while you are using it. I use a scalpel type of craft knife quite a bit, for more detailed decoupage, and I found that it was easy to use on the mat. Some cheaper mats can be very inflexible, and this mat certainly isn't 'hard', which can be an issue if the mat buckles and won't lie flat, so I cannot fault it in any way along those lines! Of course, only time will tell, but so far so good. The grid lines on the mat are very clearly marked in white, against the dark green surface of the mat. I find this very useful indeed to get straight lines and to line up corners ready for cutting - you can keep one edge flush to the marked out line, and cut with confidence knowing that your edge hasn't run off at a wonky angle! For smaller pieces of paper or card, you can use a rule to run it along a line, placing it over the piece that you need to cut, and making sure that it's lined up at the other side, too, while the edge of the piece lies along another part of the grid. Very handy indeed! The grid is also useful to scale something down - very handy to cut out a layer of card or paper and make it proportionally smaller all round, using the grid. I also use a heavier craft knife, like a Stanley knife, and I have cut card on the mat with it - no problem whatsoever. It's not showing any visible signs of marking up, and granted, it's not been used a lot, but I am very happy with the results, so far. The mat is a very good budget buy. I would happily recommend it, and certainly for anyone starting out in crafting who doesn't want to pay a fortune, you can't go wrong with this mat. Even experienced crafters might be happily surprised, as I was, to find that something that costs so little can actually be very effective. Yes, of course, you can pay much more for a cutting mat, (for example the self-healing type) and as with all crafting supplies, I tend to feel that you 'get what you pay for', so to find such a good quality item at this price really is great for anyone crafting on a budget! I am giving it 5 stars, for price, design, and useability - no need to look anywhere else, and would happily buy again when needed.

I've been meaning to buy a proper cutting mat for years but never got around to it as the tops of my desk and work table can attest. I've started leather crafting though so figured it was time. I saw this Amtech mat which looked the right size at a sensible price. Once it arrived it's a lot thicker (about 2.5mm) and stiffer than I expected and has a reassuringly hefty weight to it. As soon as I started using it to cut various leather parts the benefit was immediately obvious. The pliant but supportive surface is perfect for ensuring clean cuts and the texture means you can easily feel when you are all the way through the material. The self-healing plastic certainly seems to shrug off lighter cuts and even deeper ones don't chew up the surface too much though can still be felt/seen. It's marked in a simple 1cm grid pattern which makes lining up straight cuts nice and easy. It has a nice grippy surface too so the material you're cutting doesn't slide around or slip. At A3 size it fits nicely on my desk and I will probably get one in A2 size for my work table. As this is the first mat like this I've ever bought I can't speak to how it compares to others but I can't think of anything that would make it better. I'd be happy to recommend it to anyone.

je m'en sers comme tapis de souris pour l'un (sens vertical) et tapis de clavier pour l'autre (sens horizontal). Les 2 plaques à découper se touchent. C'est impec car je bidouille régulièrement et ai donc rien à rajouter pour protéger mon bureau puisqu'elles sont là h24. Pour la souris s'il y a la moindre micro miette de riiiien du tout on la sens TRÈS BIEN, c'est un peu chiant mais on s'y habitue, je passe régulièrement ma main sur le tapis pour virer les toutes petites poussières, miettes etc et à cause ou grâce à ce tapis on se rends compte que ça va très très vite, plus que l'on l'imagine. Tout ça on le sentirai pas avec un tapis de souris classique avec revêtement en tissu mais bon comme j'ai dis on s'habitue et puis ça fait des super tapis de bureau très solide à plusieurs emploi donc c'est cool

La verdad es que me ha sorprendido la calidad que tiene este producto es muy bueno y me viene de lujo. Lo uso mucho para cuando trasteo con materiales inflamables para limpiar rodamientos, grasas o soldar y cero problemas con este producto. Por mi parte yo lo recomiendo mucho, me habría gustado comprarme un modelo más grande pero no cogí bien las medidas y el que compre es un poco más pequeño de lo que imaginaba. Pero como digo es un buen producto.
