Great little CD player, works well.

Good solid construction, burn rate acceptable but not super fast. Plug and play worked fine on my Windows laptop but as yet haven't tried it on my MacBook pro. Sadly it does not come with software so that came as an additional cost. Once I had downloaded some software found the player easy to use but that ease was of course courtesy of the software. The additional slots for usb, cards etc might be useful but have as yet to use them. Fairly good value for money I feel.

Instructions give examples of named software needed to allow operation of the drive on Windows 11. This software needs to be installed before connecting the drive. The laptop recognised the machine and loaded the drivers needed. After following the instructions exactly I was unable to play any sort of DVD, the drive reported unable to find disc error. When writing to a re-recordable dvd the error please load disc error. I removed it and re-loaded it still the same, after trying four other dvd's of different manufacture I gave up. Final note: The instruction leaflet/booklet print is very very small and difficult to understand.

great piece of kit for the price...

I have been tinkering with CD and DVD players for decades but my favourite all-singing all-dancing Sony hi-fi separates have slowly died one by one, and I no longer have the space. I had ripped all my CDs, but then the expensive SSD the files were on gave up the ghost without warning. Now I'm in the long and tedious process of re-ripping the CDs. I have an old Windows laptop with a CD drive and software but the open/eject button to put a disk in requires more manual dexterity than I possess, plus it's invisible unless you you light it with a torch. And there's no icon anywhere I can find to click to open the tray before it's loaded with a disk. Who designs these things? So an external unit with a visible button on the front seems the way to go. This one works on my laptops and on my Mac desktop. The motor is pretty audible, but then they all are, especially at this price level. My music drowns it out with no effort, as does the sound of the rain on the window. Sure there is no software, but the Mac has music software, and I have VLC (which is free) on my Win 10 laptop - and when that dies I'd rather spend a fortune on a Macbook than waste more money on yet another Windows laptop - enough is enough! So I can do what I need to with it and for that it's worth what I paid. I cannot fault the function of spinning a CD around and turning it into signals to eventually end up being digitised again, and for that I'm not fussed about appearance. My main gripe is the cable length. As others have said it is too short to be of any use in the real world of cramped over-populated desks. I need something that reach out to where I can reach it, cue a USB hub on a longer wire.
