We Are the Shapes

As a teacher, I’m always searching for books that not only capture my students’ attention but also teach important lessons in an approachable way. We Are the Shapes by Kevin Jenner is a perfect example. The characters are hilarious and relatable, and the story delivers powerful themes of inclusion, cooperation, and respecting differences—all without ever feeling “preachy.” I’ve read it aloud to my class, and the students were hooked from beginning to end. The illustrations are bold and colorful, making it easy for group read-alouds, and the story sparks great discussions afterwards. It’s also a fantastic springboard for activities around shapes, teamwork, and kindness. This book has definitely earned a permanent spot in my classroom library, and I’d highly recommend it to other educators. It’s one of those rare books that’s both entertaining and truly educational

Such a wonderful book, my 3 year old nephew wants this read to him every night as his bedtime story since I gave it to him, he follows along with the pictures (he loves the rocket bit especially!) Lovely story and beautiful illustrations, can't wait for a new one!

Very enjoyable book, great introduction to shapes for our little one's. They loved the art style and how the fun the story is and the relationship between the shapes. Highly recommend, look forward to seeing what the author does nest.

This is a fantastic, humorous introduction to shapes for young children, the tone of which reminded me slightly of some of Oliver Jeffers' 'The Hueys' books. It also touches on teamwork and learning to accept and appreciate each others' differences. Highly recommend.

I read this children's book with my daughter, and we both liked it a lot. I enjoyed the story, and the message of the book. The book is about shapes, and at first we see the squares and the triangles, and how they find it hard to get on with each other. Next come the circles, who try to show the squares and the triangles how to work together as a team, rather than fighting all the time. I loved this message, which is very important for young children. The book has lovely graphics, which all children will love. Highly recommended!
