As a parent, it can sometimes be difficult to truly comprehend what’s going on in his mind, even though he’s on the high-functioning side of the spectrum. I wanted something that could offer a perspective that my daughter—who is typically developing—could relate to as well. This book has easily become one of my personal favorites. The author eloquently captures the thoughts, emotions, and challenges of a young person living with autism in a way that is both deeply moving and incredibly insightful. I found myself reflecting on how I may have misunderstood my son in the past. The author shares intimate reflections on family dynamics, feelings of isolation, and the desire for connection, which resonated deeply with me. Some parts of the book brought tears to my eyes, as I realized how many moments I missed or misinterpreted. For anyone who wants to understand autism on a more personal and intimate level, this book is a must-read. It provided the clarity I was searching for and opened my eyes to my son’s inner world in ways I had often wondered about. I highly recommend this to parents, siblings, and anyone looking to foster a deeper empathy and understanding of autism. Review: Great book - This book change my view on Autism and how we interact with people. It changed how my son and I communicate. I couldn’t tell you how much this book helps.

Enjoyable and helpful
Naoki encourages you to keep trying both as caregiver and autistic individual. He talks about being patient with slow progress and not limiting yourself or not limiting your charge. There is much more to this book but it is a message of encouragement and answers and stories that are wonderful to read.

A story of resilence from a young man with autism
The young man who wrote this and another book has lived with autism for about two decades. He is very articulate and describes his inner life in a way that is engaging, sometimes funny, heartbreaking and heartwarming. If you have in your family or your classroom someone who lives with these challenges it may give you a whole new perspective on life -- your own and your family-member's or your student's.

Great book! Very educational.
Everyone should read this book. It is very well written and explains so much about autism so people can have a better understanding of the strength and obstacles autistic people have to endure.

More to love
I teach K-6 students with autism, and can see many correlations to Naoki's perspective he shares in his books (this one, and also The Reason I Jump). I've done much highlighting, and this would be an excellent resource for giving other staff greater perspective. I have watched "trained" Sped professionals follow their training and totally miss the mark because they're not engaged with their student with autism. Thanks, Naoki, I love your voice!!

This is well written, and explains very well how it feels to be an autistic child. This is an excellent book for parents of autistic children.

Danke!
