Ordering more for baby #2 :)
This bottle is GREAT!! Our son loves to throw his bottles about and though these are dented they are still in perfect working order 15 months after they went into use. He drinks his water from them now. I do not know how many plastic bottles he has broken but I regret not forking out the extra for more of these when I should have. I would heat my breast milk up in warm water while I left warm water in the bottle with the sleeve on. When I poured out the water and transfered the breast milk over the heat was kept well because of the rubber sleeve around the metal bottle. Side note: I have had the bottle successfully launched at me numerous times (very funny, William) and it hurts a hell of a lot less when you get hit with a bottle with the sleeve ON! Easy to clean and no scratches on the inside to harbour anything unwanted. I used Lansinoh breast milk storage bags to store the milk I'd pumped. The bags are clear and marked so it is easy to see how much milk you have in the bag, because of this I didn't need a bottle with a measurement strip. Saying that, William has always been a big eater and I fed on demand so I have no idea how much I was feeding him I just fed him till he was full. My son was fed breast milk exclusively until he was 7 1/2 months old. He was mostly nursed, the bottle was only for others to use with him. I weened him completely a week before he turned 1. We started using the bottle when he was around 4 months old so he could be left with a sitter or his dad and I could get some time alone. We didn't experienced problems with the fit of the bottle pieces or any leaking. The flow was never too great for him to handle but every child is different and this is no exception. I would highly recommend this bottle and frequently do!

Many Design Flaws
So like most unsatisfied reviewers I wanted to love this product. Stainless steel was much needed at the point that my daughter started throwing her glass bottles on the ground when she was done. Problem 1) and our biggest issue. The nipple can very easily be pushed down into the bottle which then it basically becomes a cup and the milk spills EVERYWHERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, usually all over babies face. Literally will push in when baby is drinking it. If she is in the crib she may be swimming by the time you get back. basically this flaw renders this product useless to us and we just don't use them anymore (we have two). For the price this should not be happening. The second issue is that the nipples start to smell funky after a bit and NOTHING will remove that smell. Oh and i guess there is a third issue, with the hourglass shape the base is smaller so they topple over easily. NOT RECOMMENDED.

Great bottle!
Great bottle!! But bad nipple!!! I replaced it with lansinoh moma nipple. A bit of a work to get the moma nipple in, though. Easy to warm contents, don't have to worry after leaving it in my stainless steel DIY sterilizer about melting. We also ditched the sleeve. The original nipple was fast flowing n collapsed but still wanted to try as the company had a great customer service( bought their water bottle two years back for my school goer and had to contact them about the lid). I will recommend it but with another nipple.

WOULD rate lower now.....updated at bottom :-[
Our glass bottles were great, until i had the poor habit of transferring them a little too hastily from their refrigerator job of storing breast milk, into the hot water bath to warm for baby....we cracked 3 out of 6 bornfree glass bottles in 3 months...i was sad because i really liked them, but i'm sort of a "pyrex girl," used to glass that doesn't have to be "babied" quite so much! (we later found that even attempting to heat up room temperature bottles in the hot water bath was causing them to crack....grrr...that is another review and another story) so then we got a few plastic bottles. hum. they seemed so light and crappy in comparison, the "safe ones" were not cheap, and they seemed to get a scratchy look after minimal use. unimpressed. my husband begged me to look for stainless steel bottles (his favorite material in the world, but he's a science guy, so you understand) and we found these. I confess, they were my second choice..i wanted the "Pura" bottles because i think (but am not sure and wasn't able to confirm) that they are compatible with the born free vent/nipples and that would be ideal. However, they are not available, i think, until late feb early march (2010) and we couldn't wait. These bottles are simple-- bottle in a removable silicone sleeve, ring, nipple, and cap with measurements on it. (No measures printed inside the bottle, but sleeve has measurements on it, though sorta hard to use since not transparent). They actually will hold 6 oz if you fill them up to the VERY top. We ditched the sleeve on all the bottles because it traps water, makes them take FOREVER to heat up, and really isn't necessary-- the bottles are not too hot to hold at all. (we heat breastmilk up to about 98 deg for baby) I thought we'd heat them up THEN put the sleeves on, but its not so easy to do that and not necessary. Too bad i obsessed over what colors to get! Ha! **IMPORTANT** Description states that this 5 oz version comes with a "slow flow nipple." Yikes! No! Wrong! If your baby is young AND/OR a breastfed baby (ours is, he's 4 months) these nipples are WAAAAAY too fast. oh my goodness are they fast. We are used to bornfree's lowest nipple, (where you nearly have to shake the drops out to test) and this nipple, when you invert it to do that same test, its like a fire hose on your wrist (i then tested the other 3 bottles from our order, same deal). Poor little oliver was hacking and choking and in 10 seconds & husband feeding him realized quickly the problem....crying baby, what to do....and after a furious dig through misc bottle parts, the wide neck NUK nipple FITS!!!!! Now, i'll tell you it doesn't fit without some patience working it in, and even then you have to keep an eye on it for folding up, and the nuk ring doesn't fit, have to use this orange ring here, but PHEW. Still, not a permanent solution, so i emailed customer service ([...] or call 310-245-9667) on a FRIDAY night, and they actually wrote back by sat morning (!!!) saying that they are aware of the problem and that she was sending out new replacement nipples (that were actually slow flow) to our address. When we get them, if they are anything but great, i'll update this review. NUK nipples work in a pinch until you get your replacement nipples from the company, but they really leaked for us, despite fitting into the space. We did use it with the nuk nipple with some OCCATIONAL success. ************UPDATE******UPDATE******UPDATE*********** I think we are down to like 2 or three stars now. boo. we have gotten our replacement nipples and the flow rate is perfect...as in, the slow flow is actually really slow flow. perfect.... EXCEPT...oh the leaking. i'm trying to experiment with more tightening, less tightening, adjust nipple, etc...but are having about one out of three or four times that i'm feeding ollie and notice that the neck of his outfit is wet and its from the pretty fast drip if not trickle coming out either the ring or around the nipple and we can NOT afford to waste any breastmilk, trust me. With the leak issues becoming a more frequent headache....I think its possible we'll return these and exchange for the "Pura" stainless baby bottles so we can go back to our born free vent system, nipples & rings (will have to confirm that) when they hit the market March 5. I'm anxiously awaiting this... the website is pura stainless, or they will also have them here on amazon i'm sure. I also have a good suspicion that we'll be able to turn the pura bottles into sippy cups with born free handles (again, not sure, but i think so) and that would be an advantage...i don't see handles being sold for these to turn into sippies..then again, i didn't ask. By the time i get this bottle thing figured out, it'll be time for the sippy! sheesh!

Sprung a Leak
We received one of these bottles as a gift. It leaked all over. I still love the idea of stainless steel so I tried another from Pura Stainless Kiki. The Kiki bottle works great!
