Pre-algebra, Grades 7-8: Mcdougal Littell Middle School Math Review: Great book - The schools do not provide textbooks to their students anymore which makes it incredibly difficult to attempt to help a child do their homework when there is NO examples or explanations. I ordered/rented this book so that I could help my 8th grader with his pre-algebra. It has been a minute since I have sat in a classroom!! The book is great. It has examples and practice problems. It transitions easily between chapters. It helps this momma who is NOT a math person to help my kid do his work. I grew up with McDougal textbooks so I know that they are good ones. I purchased the book used. It was not a ridiculous price. I did not want to purchase new since we won't use the book again when he is done with it. I appreciate used books - I DO wish that the option of renting was for this book. I would rather rent and return than to purchase and have another book sit on the bookshelf. Review: Required for class - Bought this book because child kept forgetting to bring his book home. Sturdy cover, timeless concepts, good selection of homework problems. Arrived quickly and in excellent shape. The lessons are explained in clear and logical fashion. We have no problems following them. The pages are thin and are good quality. Child is rough on his books, but we have had no tears. This will last for years. McDougal Littell may have an e-book online as well. We had not checked at the time of the purchase.

Awesome book!
Going to use it to review math and Pre-Algebra to take a placement exam. Very cool book, easy to understand with an abundance of review problems.

Second copy for home use.
I bought this for a second copy so my daughter (seventh grade) wouldn't have to carry hers back and forth. Her bag is so heavy already. I bought an inexpensive used one and it has served her well. I can't really comment about the material, but she did say she liked this book better than the Saxon one she had last year.

Easy to understand, even for moms and dads
I have a daughter who skipped a year in math and went right into pre-algebra in 6th grade. The book was challenging, but clear. It presented new concepts well, and transitioned into each chapter with smooth continuity from the previous. I had to help my daughter with her focus on details and showing all steps but conceptually she did get it. I think the book was great in helping her grasp a full understanding of pre-algebra, which included math 6, a little trig and geometry.

Good material, but very long-winded, intimidates kids
Good book, material is explained well. HOWEVER, it's NOT concise by any means, the giant size (900+ pages) is very discouraging to the kids when they see it. I wish theory and practice books were quite separate so that the size of it didn't scare kids so much. My kid prefers "everything you need to ace math in one big fat notebook Everything You Need to Ace Math in One Big Fat Notebook: The Complete Middle School Study Guide (Big Fat Notebooks) " - it's quarter the size of this one (500 half-size pages) and therefore doesn't freak her out- she's happier to see that she completed a few chapters there instead of the very slow progress through this book. And then I try to sneak in extra practice from this mega-book... Suitable for 10-11 year olds and up (except for intimidation factor).

Arrived on time within the shipped delivery date range, and in like new condition as advertised
Good book, used by our school, we wanted to buy our own copy so that our daughter would not have to lug it back and forth to/from school. Decent low price, so we decided to get this like new offer rather than some of the other used copies. It arrived on time within the shipped delivery date range, and in brand new condition.

It's awesome!
I really like it to far. It's very easy to understand and I like that it has a lot of online tools to use. Some of those would be: quizzes, outlines and even games! I would recommend this book to students in middle school or those who have a problem with pre-algebra. I myself am a college student and I am using it to catch up.

Great reference book to supplement your math reading with lots of helpful tips and explanations. However, there are no answers to the practice questions.
