I own seven of these devices. I have owned a total of 12 of these Palm One Zire units. The one I received today had the same problem that I received from another supplier. When you plug the charger into the unit, the unit turns on and works perfectly. I left the charger on for five hours and then removed it. The unit would not turn on. I then tried charging it with one of my chargers, that I know works because I've been using it for more than 10 years. Same thing happens, the unit does not hold a charge and won't turn on. Also, I received what was suppose to be a new package. It had been broken into and the instructions had been removed. Not a problem because I have a drawer full of instructions. The CD was also missing. Also not a problem because I have a lot of CDs. It would make more sense to buy a used PalmOne Zire that you know works.

I bought the device and it didn’t even work. The battery wouldn’t charge so I ended up buying a new cable from Amazon to try. When that didn’t work, I contacted the seller and was told it stated it needed a new battery to work in the listed, but that was untrue — I wouldn’t have bothered to buy something I would immediately need to replace parts on for it to work. I had to pay for a new screwdriver small enough to fit the screws and wait for that to be delivered in order to get the screws out. After going through all that, I found out the battery doesn’t just pop out, it’s soldered to the motherboard and I have no way of replacing that kind of battery. Just don’t even buy this model, it’s trash and not worth the price it costs.

I bought this unit for a very cheap price (less than 20 dollars) a few months ago. The unit came in time and was in its original factory-sealed package. Once I opened it and set it up, I found out the original battery completely died. So here is a warning for those who consider buying this item at a discounted price. Simply because these PDAs were manufactured more than ten years ago, the original batteries in them most likely already died. In this case (PalmOne Zire), the battery was soldered to the circuit board and hence there is not an easy way to replace the battery. So if you are considering buying a PalmOne device (nowadays you may get them at a very good price), I suggest that you check online whether there is an easy way to replace the battery and whether replacement batteries are readily available. The above particular unit that I bought works great when the charger is being plugged but dies as soon as the charger is unplugged. All factors considered, I would give this product two stars.
