Annique is a great character, and Grey and Adrian are in the same league. spies, the Napoleonic era and a great writing style drew me in from the beginning. The main character, the french spy Annique, springs alive from the pages, and draws us into the story. " She was willing to die, of course, but she had not planned to do it so soon, or in such prolonged and uncomfortable fashion, or at the hands of her own countrymen." The story continues just as strongly. LeBlanc holds in his prisons two British spies, Grey and Adrian, and together they manage with a mix of force and ingenuity to break out of their prison. Annique, the "fox cub" is a brilliant character, and Grey and Adrian are in the same league. Their story is full of fun, danger, ingenious twists, which makes this story one I highly recommend. If you enjoyed it, go get her other books, all set in the same world of the Spymasters, but all their own contained story.

Amazon had featured this book in a lot of lists as a recommended item & I kept putting off buying it but eventually felt compelled to purchase it after reading some of the reviews & let me tell you I was not dissapointed. What an original plot! Not just a love story but a well grafted plot that enthralls & captivates you till the end. The characters are so well developed & the interaction between hero/heroine & the characters that surround them throughout the book is absolutely phenominal. What a debut!! What is really unusual about this book is the exploration of feeling & true human emotion which makes you ride the tide of feeling as well. I look forward to reading the next by this amazing author- and I know she only has one more but hopefully more to follow, Definately deserves 5 *****

Despite the trashy cover, this is a good story with interesting characters and plot.

Annique is French and works as a spy for the French. Robert Grey is the British head of spies. Leblanc is French military and has captured them both and put them in the same dungeon. I don't want to say any more about the plot because much of the fun was in the surprises. Readers will enjoy this book much better without knowing the plot summary. I will say the plot involves danger, escaping, being on the run, spying, secrets and loyalties. The plot spends more time on the adventure than on romance, but there is some romance and a happy ending. Some parts might be stretching logic a little, but it was a fun and different escape. I also enjoyed the main characters who are admirable, smart and talented. DATA: Sexual language: mild. Number of sex scenes: four. Setting: around 1800 during Napoleon's reign in France and England.
