I love this portable speaker! I have been looking for the perfect travel companion speaker as well as home speaker for a while and I'll compare this to the Sony SRSX33 and the Bose Soundlink Mini II. This speaker is great that it offers VERY good sound and is VERY loud with minimal distortion even when cranked up loud. I have used it outdoors, in the garage, camping, and it's been phenomenal. Secondly, it's IP7 rated waterproof! I have dunked this speaker in a bucket and have got it sandy. You can wash it with soap and water without a worry (and it's recommended in the insert as well). It's also fall resistant for drops up to a meter. This means that you can use it carefree around the house. The shape allows me to fit it into the water bottle pocket of my backpack while travelling. I swim and scuba dive and don't worry when handling this device with wet hands. If you tie one of those bobby things to the speaker (so that it doesn't sink if dropped in water) you can even take it in a canoe and listen to tunes. If you capsize, it'll continue playing on the surface. I have taken it in a boat but haven't capsized yet! Lastly, the audio quality is better than the Sony, the battery life lasts me a week with daily use at low-moderate volume (3 hours per day). The Bose however, does offer crisper highs. The base on this UE Boom is great and for casual listening its amazing. But if you're an "audiophile," you'll be able to tell the difference between this and the Bose. I wanted the speaker for it's great sound, durability and ease of travel. If this is you, I'd definitely recommend!

Good dynamic range and a reasonable amount of compression detectable at higher volumes (although most audiophiles know compression is a loudness and power-consumed type of calculation). I bought this product in hopes of putting it in the bottle cage of my bike. Sadly, it is too small for most cages. If I had known that, I would have perhaps purchased the Megaboom. I still might, but I digress. I would recommend the Boom 2 for the college student looking to get others to appreciate music. As some of the other reviews had mentioned-one can only pack so much into a confined space. The smaller the cone and driver, the worse the sound quality. For the size, Logitech has definitely hired the right engineers on the UE line of products. Some genres really pop with this unit, especially if they stick around the mid range-soft rock, rock, jazz, and motown are good examples. Saxophone and acoustic guitar sounds unbelievably crisp and clear. Genres with lower frequencies I would stay away from- metal and R&B especially. If you're a Five Finger Death Punch or Snoop Dogg fan, this is not really the speaker for you...that is, if you haven't heard songs in that genre on an actual stereo (LCR,SW). Having my own THX Pioneer system to compare this speaker to, lots of high and low noises are almost ignored by the Boom 2. But if you've never had an actual stereo to compare to, you will be thoroughly happy. It's better than any Bose Headphone or cheap soundbar out on the market. If this speaker is in your financial lane, pick it up and you'll be happy. If you possess the ability to demonstrate self-control to save your money, get the Megaboom. Although I have not physically heard it first hand, the unit is larger and based on the same technology as the Boom and Boom 2. For $100 more, I'd say it would be worth it. Who knows, if you're even more attentive to self-control...there might be a Megaboom 2 soon... You know, if you are really about getting into quality sound and experiencing music, check out Bowers & Wilkins. I am sure there is a display somewhere local that you can find a setup to listen to. They are THE comapany all other companies try to aspire to when it comes to sound production. When studios are mixing the audio tracks for movies and theatrical music, they use B&W. Just a thought. It never hurts to know what is out there, especially to get a frame of reference. EDIT: I just bought a second Boom 2 and paired them together. Money well spent. Double stereo is super cool and the dynamic range is much better than in just a single speaker. I can just hook them anywhere and get the sound that turns heads...because it sounds like the music is whispering in your ear. Indescribable.

This is a super product. The voice quality is amazing, and the battery life is excellent. After first charge, it worked for 8 days without another charge. With app support, everything from volume to switch on, all can be controlled via app. There were different types of chargers, which is very useful for all types of sockets.

I consider myself a "semi" audiophile, and I'm very pleased with the UE BOOM 2. Considering the size and portability of this device, it puts out incredible sound. I haven't encountered another portable speaker in its category that handles the low-end as well as this speaker. Combine that with great battery life, IPX7 rating and a host of other features, the UE BOOM 2 is definitely worth the price. I was somewhat hesitant to spend this much money on an electronic device that would be used outdoors aIot, but it feels sturdy and well-constructed yet lightweight, and the exterior shell being made of rubber-like material makes it "grippy" and unlikely to slip out of my hand. The multi-host feature (where you can have two devices connected and pause one, then start music on the other to switch sources) is great for parties where my wife and I both want to control the music that's playing. The IPX7 rating gives me peace of mind when my kids want to use it while playing by the pool. It is also incredibly easy to pair new devices to the speaker either by NFC or Bluetooth. My only complaint is with the "tap to pause/skip" feature. It's hit-or-miss whether it will work when tapping the top once to pause or twice to skip to the next song. I'm rarely right next the speaker so I generally just use my phone to pause/skip so this isn't a deal-breaker by any means. I would highly recommend the UE BOOM 2 for your next portable Bluetooth speaker, in fact I've already recommended it to several friends and family members.
