The Infernal City: An Elder Scrolls Novel

I have been a fan of the games since Morrowind. This book is fantastic. Many books written within game universes are let down by their author’s lack of research into the source material (looking at a particular Mass Effect book…)however it is obvious Bethesda and Greg Keyes worked very closely together to make sure the lore is correct. The story is amazing, I couldn’t put the book down it’s just fantastic and as soon as I finished this book I read the second too and finished that in less than 5 hours! I just couldn’t stop once I started. A brilliant fantasy novel - please read both this and Lord of Souls if you are a fan of the Elder Scrolls games these are brilliant!!!

I found this book enjoyable, as I am a huge fan of the Elder Scrolls series lore. It is in no way terribly original, moving or flawlessly written. Still, its main appeal may lie in two things, in my opinion : a) the possibility of hearing and seeing more of the Elder Scrolls lore, which is one of the richest if not THE richest of every game lores ever created and b) fairly likeable and interesting characters. The author manages to find their voice and establish each of their personalities in a short time. Attrebus, as a prince who begins to understand that he lived his whole life in his own shadow, and Colin, as the imperial spy with mixed moral principles and some amazing psychic abilities seem like the most intriguing and complex of the lot, but Annaïg, for instance, is also a solid, likable heroine with just the right mix of courage, adventuring spirit and vulnerability. So, to make it short, the plot and the writing is pretty standard, fantasy cliches can be encountered fairly often, and yet the book is an enjoyable and quick read which plunges the Elder Scrolls fans into the lives of a bunch of characters at the beginning of the Fourth Era. Frankly, I think that those who never played the games could enjoy it, but would find it pretty generic and forgettable, not noticing subtle things as the mention of the daedra lords, Tamriel history lessons or insight into the Argonian and Khajiit cultures. So I'd say it's for the Elder Scrolls lore fans primarily.

Excelente para los fans del universo de The Elder Scrolls, presenta ideas interesantes y muestra el panorama después de TES IV: Oblivion de una manera impresionante, los personajes si bien no son explorados a profundidad tienen suficientes características como para recordarlos fácilmente. Si eres alguien que no ha jugado los juegos de The Elder Scrolls o no conoce sobre la historia de este mundo se te hará difícil entender varios conceptos, por lo tanto yo no lo recomendaría. Pero si eres fan de la saga lo recomiendo, añade más profundidad a la historia de este universo
