Snap-Off Blade Knife 18mm

I bought this knife many years ago for myself and it is still the exact same. This time I bought it as a gift because it is the only utility knife you ever need (one exception is hook shaped blades for carpet, but how many people lay their own carpet). What makes this knife so valuable is a combination of features. The 18mm blades are plentiful and one can get them everywhere. The knife holds the blade squeezed in securely, so there is no play between the blade and the handle. This gives it a very solid feel, unlike a utility knife. You can make the blade as long as you need it. If it is 1/16th to open boxes, you push it out 1/16th and tighten. If you need a blade to cut 1'' thick styrofoam, you make it a 1.25'' long blade. With snap off blades you always have a sharp edge and tip and snapping off one segment is a lot faster than exchanging or turning around one of those trapezoid shaped utility blades (having a Leatherman at your belt is recommended).

This is a very nice knife. Easy to hold with a large body, easy break-off blades so you always have a sharp edge, and super easy to refill. The retracting blade is an essential safety feature. Very well designed and easy to use. Probably the best utility knife on the market.

Does not clamp the blade and it moves in a fixed state

Feels nice and hefty in the hand, more comfortable than the Olfa 9mm that I have. However, this thing is a pain to use. I can’t retract the blade without loosening the end screw and the blade won’t stay in place without tightening the end screw. There is no sweet spot I can find with that screw where this thing will work like every other retractable utility knife I’ve ever used. I had hoped for a better product.

Excellent snap-off knife with a solid lock function. I had been through a couple of brands until I stumbled across this variant. It solves my biggest gripe with snap-off knives in general: you can properly lock the blade at the length you need without worrying about the blade retracting by accident. The turn/lock dial at the bottom takes some getting used to, but when you get the hang of it, you will never go back!

I wanted a knife without the side thumbscrew that always strips found on most other knives. So far, this knife is working well. The only drawback is that it is a single blade knife vice having a cartridge of several. Providing the tension screw stands up, I will live with reloading more frequently.
