Sweet Tone On The Cheap
The Donner Multi-Pad 100 is a sweet little guitar and bass multi-fx unit with amp and cab sims, for $50. I was pleasantly surprised with this unit. It'll make a great little desktop guitar rig for me to use in the office or around the house. Although you could use this to play live shows, the build is not really "stage ready". You could make it work if you were in a pinch, but you'd have to be careful not to step on it. I did run through my pedal board into this, so I can vouch that it will take pedals alright. (I use the Donner Ultimate Compressor first in my chain, and it's an ALWAYS ON effect for me, in case you're looking for an inexpensive, decent compressor)... The Amp/Cab sims were actually not bad, and the effects were somewhat limited, but usable... I'm not comparing this to a 700 dollar unit obviously - but this is a bargain at $50 and I thoroughly enjoyed playing through it. The AMP/Cabs are Fender Tweed (1x12), Vox AC30 (2x12), Marshall JCM800 (2x12), Orange AD30 (4x12), Peavey 5150 (4x12), ENGL Savage 120 (4x12), and the Ampeg SVT bass amp (4x10) *I have not tried running bass through this yet* I actually liked all of the Amp/Cabs. The Fender and Vox are usually my style, but I found the Marshall JCM800 to be really cool. I'm not really into high-gain amps anymore, but I did have fun chunkin' away on the Peavey 5150 and the ENGL Savage 120. There is a Gain, Tone, and Volume knob. The effects are Reverb (Room / Hall / Plate), Modulation (Chorus / Flanger / Tremolo), and Delay (Pure / Warm / Tape). Dialing in either of the 3 types of effects is a bit tricky... Basically you have one knob for each of the 3 types (Reverb / Modulation / Delay) - and for each knob, it controls the 3 different variations of the effect type. For example, the reverb knob all the way to the left (7 o'clock) is no reverb, and as you turn the knob clockwise, it turns on the "Room" reverb, and as you rotate through to about 10 o'clock, it lengthens the decay AND increases the mix... then from 11 o'clock to 1 is the Hall, and the remaining turn is for the plate. Same concept for the Modulation and Delay. These are not outstanding effects, but they work ok if you take the time to carefully dial them in. I found myself using a slight bit of chorus, and a slap-back style on the "pure" delay. Oh, and it has a 40 pattern drum machine and metronome - these were not very good, but could be good to practice with if you needed to work on some rhythm. Also does have a built in tuner, which I was surprised it was fairly easy to use, even tuned down to e-flat... What I like about this is that it's really perfect for someone just starting out on guitar (or bass), and wants to have some effects and amp/cab sims without spending hundreds of dollars on pedals ... AND for you parents out there, they can just plug in their headphones and jam silently! They can also just plug the output into their guitar or bass amp and play loud too :) For the advanced player, this will be good to plug in and go when inspiration hits, without setting up an entire rig.... And to practice in headphones without bothering the family! I'm giving this 5 stars because it's great for beginners and good enough for accomplished musicians, at a very affordable price!

Worth every bit of $50
I gave this unit 4 stars based on the price. I honestly don't think you can get better sound or functionality for $50. The amp sims are decent but they sound better the hotter your pickups are. Single coils sound nice but it was hard to get any overdrive. But a set of humbuckers sounded pretty thick and gritty (I really liked them with the JCM sim). I used it with a battery and I didn't notice any noise at all. It's also the best headphone amp I've come across. If you're like me and live in a condo/apartment this makes is really convenient to practice at night. The unit is compact, the phones sound good and you won't wake your neighbors. The effects aren't that great. The mods are honestly terrible, the delay doesn't have separate time and feedback controls and the reverbs are just weird. But if you're a blues or rock player and you need just enough reverb and delay to give you sound some space you can dial it in. I had fun playing it and I'll definitely keep it handy.

So much sound in a little package
Picked this up because I am always on the lookout for effects with headphone output. This stood above a couple others because I am familiar with Donner through another pedal that I use heavily, and I like the SNES look this thing has. I am a studio only musician, don't play for or with anyone else, have closely spaced neighbors and several very noise sensitive pets - this combined with the type of music I work with, noise/experimental, means an amplifier is counter productive and unnecessary for my purposes. I note this because this review is based on how it sounds through headphones and monitor speakers at line level - I can't speak to how it behaves with a traditional amp. That all said, this is a great little unit, seemingly geared towards the beginning player, but with a solid array of useful sounds. An important thing to know with this is how sensitive the controls are. Each effect is contained within a short turn of a knob, so it's easy to miss the full range of tones available. Taking some time to get to know the nuances, you will find a chorus that sounds to me Small Clone-ish, nice sound with fairly narrow range, a flanger with a surprisingly wide range from very subtle to almost self oscillation, and a subtle tremolo, amp type, reminds me of my old Ampeg J20T. Three delays - pure, warm and tape, and three reverbs - room, hall and plate all perform as described. Each effect has an audible turn on and shut off point which can create artifacts in the sound when switching on the fly. For me this is a great thing, for example crossing up delay types can get you a very cool cascading stutter thing. If that's not for you, be sure to let all sounds come to a complete stop before shifting effects. On the amp side, the models are great, I also have Donner's Incredible V pedal which is a model of a 1959 Super Lead and a Fender Deluxe Reverb. They do a nice job with Fender and Marshall tones, represented here on CL1 (Fender) and OD1 (Marshall). However they didn't just reuse those models, the ones on the MultiPad differ in that the Fender clean seems more generalized rather than being one specific amp, and the Marshall here is a JCM sound. Others are CL2 (Vox AC), OD2 (Orange), DS1 (5150), DS2 (Engel), and one bass (Ampeg SVT), and each amp has a matching cabinet available. The Vox is labeled a clean setting, but dirties up nicely at the top of its range. The Orange sound is the first one I have tried and liked - modeled or real. I don't really use the metal amp models and dont have a reference tone in my head for either, however I do use the 5150 with the flanger at a little less than mid range and get a nice early Van Halen tone. I know - that was a Marshall, but I think the spirit is probably the same. The bass channel sounds nice and clean with a bass, and very clean, JC 120 like with a guitar, this is the best channel to add external pedals to. Control response for both volume and gain increases in sensitivity the higher they go. Both don't begin to respond until the 9 - 10 o'clock setting and have the widest difference in tone between the 3 and 5 o'clock settings. The Tone setting itself has an even sweep to it. Again, getting to know the controls is not time wasted and you will find a stunning amount of sounds in this little box. The drums are not really something I will use, but they sound good and are I'm sure a great tool for learning. I wish there were boxes like this around way back when I started playing! This is now a regular fixture in my arsenal and I highly recommend it.

This pedal is good quality. It has many presets that give options for the type of tone you may be looking for without the need for an expensive amp. The package came well protected with an included 9v power source which is really handy. Although not a stomp box, it is light weight and has a belt clip for attaching to your side for ease of access to the controls while playing. I really like the feature of the belt clip and included power source.
