Black Mass (DVD)

Good movie. No problem with the DVD.

Johnny Depp does it again with his portrayal of Whitey Bulger. I’m a Bostonian and HATE it when actors try to do our accent but can’t. It’ll ruin an entire movie for me. Depp does a pretty decent job getting our accent down and being consistent with it throughout. The story itself takes some liberties, but depicts Whitey for what we Bostonians have known him to be. Having said that, it’s a great movue, great storyline, the acting is fantastic. I’d love to see Johnny do more movies like this one! Grab some popcorn and enjoy the movie! It’s worth it!

What can I say, classic dime piece. Johnny Depp is a brilliant actor

I really don't know a whole lot about James "Whitey" Bulger outside of what I got in the documentary about him that came out shortly before this film. Needless to say, he was quite an unsavory character, but interesting movies have been made about those types, even in the gangster genre. BLACK MASS didn't always work as an engaging story, despite combining two of my biggest interests (gangsters and true crime), because it never really focused on a particular aspect of the events and, as such, was a little unwieldy and never really let its characters develop. To be sure, it has an impressive cast and all of them do fine work, but few of them outside of Johnny Depp were given any room to make an impression. Still, this is a well-crafted film from a technical perspective, with excellent camerawork, a good score (courtesy of Junkie XL, no less), and a welcome return to form by Johnny Depp. This is the best I've seen him in years, possibly since DONNIE BRASCO. For all of the faults in the narrative structure, Johnny Depp is what makes this worth watching. There are times when he was legitimately frightening, even though a couple of these moments were partially given away in the trailers. Although BLACK MASS aspires to be in the same company as GOODFELLAS and DONNIE BRASCO, it doesn't quite live up to them, at least in terms of lasting quality and rewatchability. Still, it is a perfectly serviceable true crime tale with a top-notch performance by Depp, itself alone to recommend at least one viewing.

I am both fascinated and abhorred by mafia figures. To say Johnny Depp was excellent in his portrayal of Whitey Bulger is inadequate. He was so convincing that one forgets it is Depp, not something easy to do. This movie is cast well, engrossing and informative. From settings, music and costuming it is superb. How Depp wasn't recognized for this role is disappointing. He showed the depth and versatility of his acting prowess. He was excellent when he played John Dillinger as well. However, due to his physical attractiveness one could never forget it was Depp. Well done to all the artists involved in this production

Another Johnny Depp masterpiece! All actors did excellent jobs of bringing to life those involved in the labyrinth of gangs, their ever twisting goals. The entropy resulting from the tensions and fights, both internal and personally, and externally, between each other rises and falls as loyalty and compromised decisions by the FBI leads to the ultimate downfall of many, yet the end victory for others, though tarnished, end the end, by bad judgements that could not sustain even the purest of intentions. A very good venture into the underworld of organized and and not so organized crime, along with lots of dragging through dirt by all.

this a really good film johnny depp great as always, not only is it about a real man’s life but it’s got a great story and cast, it also comes with bonus scene johnny depp transformation into James Whitley burger and the transformation is incredible, well done film alround, would recommend anyone thinking of watching this film buy the dvd it’s well worth its place in your film collection
