I bought three of these for a set of Ikea cabinets I bought and built in my bedroom. I want the lights to come on as soon as I open the doors to the cabinets. I was impressed as soon as I took them out of the box. The lighting strips are rigid and durable - not at all flimsy or cheap looking. My expectation is they will last a long time. The units come with three basic components: (1) a power supply; (2) a motion detector switch; and (3) four light strips. The motion detector switch has single power-in line, and two switched power-out lines. One power-out line is about 20 inches long, and the second one is about 30 inches long. It also comes with three 10-inch extension cords. You can daisy chain the lights in any configuration: 4 on a single line, 3-1, or 2-2. One light connects to the next in a toe-to-tail fashion. The connectors are keyed and lockable, preventing accidental disconnection. The lighting units have both mounting brackets that you can screw into place (screws not included), or you can use the amazingly strong adhesive strip to fix it anywhere in place. The strips have a right angle back plane. You can mount the strip so the lights are facing up, or down (or left or right). This is really nice, because it allows you to mount the strips in such a way that the lights face away from you so they do not shine in your eyes. My only complaint (and it is a minor one) is the mounting brackets are only on one side, not both, so if you want the lights to face a certain direction, you may have to use the adhesive strip instead of the screws. Because the plugs are keyed and have male/female ends, you do not always have the option to orient the lights in the configuration you want using the screws. I was planning to screw my lights in place, but I had to use the adhesive strips to overcome this limitation. In the end, I found the adhesive strip to be so good, I was not disappointed. In some cases I want to plug the lights directly into the motion sensor switch, but I had to plug it into the 20 inch wire, and then coil the attached wire up. So I would recommend letting the user plug the light strip directly into the switch, or have very short leads coming our of the switch, and make the 20 and 30 inch leads extension cords of the very short leads. With the lights installed, one thing surprised me. I mounted one of the motion sensor switches dead center in the cabinet - right where the two doors meet. The motion sensor is so sensitive, it "sees" me walk by through the 1/8 inch crack between the doors, and turns the lights on. That is by no means a fault of the product, but a lesson learned - mount the sensor off-center, so it cannot "see" through the crack between the doors. The instructions say the lights turn off automatically after 4 minutes of no motion. I did not time it exactly, but i would guess it is closer to 6 or 8 minutes. Not a problem at all. Actually, a really nice touch is, when they do turn off, they lights gradually fade to dark - for some reason I really like that. I am putting in an order to buy more of these. They are high quality, easy to install, and work very well. Definitely five stars.

This is a great addition to my gun safe, and really enhances my ability to see inside. In retrospect, I should have gotten the six bar set instead of the four bar set just to give me me light for the top shelf. the motion activation feature is super neat, and worth every penny. It lights up almost instantly when the door is opened. As you can see in the second photo, it's small and unobtrusive, yet still works very well. Installation was fairly simple and straightforward if you give a little thought to where you want the lights, and routing the cables. Also, pay attention to the door locking bolts/bars to ensure they won't hit light bar(s) or the motion sensor, and the cabling won't get pinched by the door hinges. To finish it off, I tucked the cables in between the carpeted panels, and it looks very clean and professional. Since my safe has an internal power port, connecting the wall wort was very easy. My only complaint, more of a snivel really, was the cord from the power supply to the motion sensor was too short for my oversized safe. I imagine if you had to run the power cord through the back/side of your safe, you also wouldn't have very much left over to route your cables effectively. I fixed mine by splicing in about 3 feet of lightweight power cord to extend the overall length. It would be nice if Torchstar offered a long power cord extension (4-6 feet) just for this purpose. Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase and I would recommend this to anyone looking to add a light kit.

A very nice lighting solution to a closet full of deep shelves. A very sensitive motion detector and quite illuminating for a dark closet. Only wish the wires were longer or y-connections were part of the kit. It would be good to push the sensor farther back in the closet so that every time we walked by, it didn’t turn on and wake someone from sleeping if the door is cracked. Awkward placements going from shelf to shelf. We will probably look for additional cables to connect and be able to put the lights exactly where we want them instead of only where we can put them because the wires are short. Great light overall. It was our best option and price over Ikeas motion lighting The plus for the Ikea system is it allows you to turn it off and on when you do not want to use the motion detector in use. We preferred a light set that would be positioned in a way that did not shine into our eyes on the higher shelves. This kit allows you to install the lights shooting straight down or facing towards the back with screws or using the 3m tape on the light. We still added an extra small strip of molding to further keep lights from shining in ones eyes when they are on. They are bright and recommend the warmer 2700-3000k color. The moulding provides a cleaner look and helps to hide the black cords on white shelves. There might be an option for white corded lights but we did not see them at the time
