Outstanding value and quality
Bought this as a budget pocket knife and I'm blown away by the quality for something under £20, it feels like an absolute steal. Arrived in a nice presentation box so would be a great gift for someone. My first impressions are that this is a really well crafted knife, sharp and very solid build - just received it so can't say how if will perform long-term but I'm pretty optimistic based on what I've seen so far. I believe that The handle is smooth so maybe not as "grippy" as some people might prefer but fine for my needs. Fairly easy to open and likely to loosen a bit more with use, takes a bit pressure to close from the fully open position but care will still be needed to avoid accidental closure. Meets the UK legal requirements in terms of blade length and being non-locking.

Superb value.
Whitby as a company has always stood for basic yet dependable products that are geared toward enjoying outdoor pursuits. This single blade pocket knife is sturdy, reasonably compact, well proportioned, and not overly heavy. Most importantly, it complies with current legal requirements for everyday carry, with reasonable discretion. Okay to carry in public in most cases, unless attending a football match or similar event or venue where obviously such an item would be prohibited. Common sense is the main factor. To allow a pocket knife to be carried in public generally, four characteristics are necessary: 1) it must be of a folding design, 2) the length of the blade from handle to tip, in the open position, must not exceed three inches, 3) no locking mechanism must exist, and 4) no spring or mechanism must exist that would allow the blade to suddenly move into the open position at the press of a button or switch. The UK Government’s website, gov.uk, also says that for a pocket knife to be carried in public, the length of the sharpened edge must not exceed three inches; however it is safer to consider three inches as the maximum length of the blade itself in the open position. Spyderco, for example, offer their excellent and popular UK Pen Knife, or UKPK, in several versions of ascending grades of material choice and cost, all with a single blade measuring exactly three inches. This Whitby pocket knife is a fraction of the cost of even the cheapest UKPK, and the blade length is well below the maximum length allowed for every day carry, or edc. The build quality is very good, with a precise fit, smooth action, and excellent pressure from the back spring, keeping the blade secured in the closed position, and giving firm tension to keep the blade open whilst in use. This traditional pocket knife design is called a slip joint. Two hands are needed to open it, and for a beginner, two hands are best to close the pocket knife. The spine of the blade is fairly thick, and overall it should give many years of service. Don’t pry with a pocket knife, or experiment with throwing it. Excellent ways to break the blade. Yes, this is the voice of experience. Keep it clean and lightly oiled, and don’t put it in the dishwasher just because it is made of stainless steel. Responsibly used and sensibly maintained, a good quality pocket knife can be passed down to the next generation. This one has my full recommendation.

Whitby knives do not disappoint!
Straight out the box knife is sharp, got a good click on opening, it is not locking but the the action is strong. The belt clip is strong and stays in place . The knife comes in brushed steel and is a lovely little diy knife so many uses. The knife is heavy for size you know you have this in your hand the quality is better than more expensive knives. The closing is soft too with a little stiffness. keep those fingers away or fingers be gone. Easy to use, sharp out the box and keeps edge really well easy to fold and belt clip is awesome.

Nice pocket EDC
Nice knife and well made. Quiet sharp. Unfolds and folds back well. Very light. However handle bit too short for my hand. Pocket little knife legal to carry.

Probably one of the best pocket knives I've had.
Why did you choose this product over others?: I really like this knife. As a 60 year old, my days if ripping open packets and bags with my teeth are long gone, and so I carry this knife everywhere. I use it at meal times to open those retched shrunk plastic wrappers they put on packets of bacon, or opening parcels or cutting the tags off new clothes. Because of it's length and the fact it's non-locking, it's legal to carry in the UK and I use it every day for all sorts of tasks. A couple of weeks ago I was sat at a friends place making wood shavings with it to start her fire. However, you need to be very carful as the blade isn't locking and if you forget it can bite you. I wanted to cut into some fairly ridged plastic and the blade partially closed and cut one of my fingers. My fault, but you need to be carful. What I like is that it's all metal. Even though it's obvious it's had a lot of use it still looks good, is still all nice and tight with no side to side wobble on the blade, and the proper metal clip means that when I put it in my coin pocket on my jeans it stays put. I've re-sharpened it a couple of times on an oil stone by hand an it always comes back nice and sharp.

Great pocket knife
A very well engineered good quality pocket knife. The opening and closing operation is silky smooth with just the right amount of tension on the slip joint to resist closing in use and not make it difficult to open. The pocket clip is great with splayed end making it easy to slide over jeans pocket material. Very classy in the titanium finish. I'm sure it will last many years.
