Fluval 306/406 Bio-Foam

I've been using these ever since I set up my fluval 406 filter. They fit perfectly into the tray, expanding just enough when they get wet to form a kind of loose seal. My 40 gal. tank has 9 cichlids and a cuckoo, so filtration is challenging. These small particle removers are very sturdy, and they don't loose their shape after they have been rinsed multiple times. I guess buying sheets in rolls in bulk might be cheaper, but these save on time and aggravation and are worth every cent.

This Fluval BioFoam will last for a very long time; some of my Fluval foam is nearly 2 years old and still works great. They work great for keeping a colony of beneficial bacteria. Just rinse by swishing in de-chlorinated water every other month or so. . This foam goes in a canister Fluval 406 External Filter This setup keeps 6 large fish healthy with zero ammonia and nitrites. I insert cut pieces of Morning Glory Queen/King Low Loft Batting, 110-Inch by 110-Inch (bought at Walmart, it's much cheaper) into the Aqueon - replacing the batting when it gets dirty, at least once a week. It's more economical than buying the Aqueon filter replacements.

I purchased two of these Bio-foam to use with both of my Hagen-Fluval Aqua-Clear 30 hang-on-back filters. (As expected, I had to cut a little off of the sides to make them fit.) I prefer the density of this bio-foam over the larger-pore-sponge that comes with the Aqua-Clear. I also like the tall size of this bio-foam because I do not use charcoal, but do frequent partial water changes using a gravel vac instead. Not using charcoal leaves extra space in the filter box which I fill using the bio-foam. The bio-foam works very well as it supplies lots of area for filtration and aerobic bacterial proliferation. As always, Amazon has it at a great price!

The sponges were a tiny bit thicker than I originally expected, but they ended up being perfect for my purpose. I had gotten a marina 360 tank and wanted to set it up as a blackwater biotope, but could only find charcoal filters for it, which would remove the tannins from the water. Well, I ordered these sponges to fix that! Cut the filter media out of the cartriges, and used the plastic as a holder for the sponge (it's smushed between the 2). Perfect for biological filtration. I can't wait until this tank is cycled.

I like this new foam. It works much better than the polishing pads as you can clean an reuse. I had been using polyfill along with polishing pads to add extra physical filtration to my Fluval 406 ... now I've switched over to these pads and its much easier and cleaner maintenance.

I recently purchased this among other flival filter products to help bulk out my half empty fluval 407 filter. The product comes with two pieces of dense foam that fit perfectly in one of the fluval 407 trays. I even had room for some fluval filter floss on top. Id suspect this will also work great with other fluval 07 cannisters. Great quality, great value for money, my water is now super clear and it was easy to apply.
