Oculus Quest 2's best friend
If you want to run a solid Oculus link with VR and be able to power it while you use it. You gotta get this card. I was trying to get away with not buying one and just charge my headset and plug it into a USB power jack and see how long it'll last. It ended up running out of battery in the middle of gaming and panicking to figure out how to rejoin the group was a challenge as I would have to plug my headset into the wall and needed to run Air link which is highly unreliable in my location with lots of interference. I bought this card after much research and solid reviews and it did exactly what i needed! Plugged my headset cable directly into it and it reads it perfectly, quickly, and keeps it powered with no more down time! Love my VR set up now.

It just works with no BS
If you know who Startech is, then you don't need this commentary. For those who don't, you buy this for the simple fact that it works and it does exactly what it says it will do. No BS, no driver issues, no worry about 'malware' or whatever keeps you up and night. I've tried other Amazon brands for different PCIE related cards and they NEVER work. This one was literally plug and play (AS IT SHOULD BE!!!!) VR? Works HD? Fast. Charging?* Sure does... *as long as you provide SATA power, but you already knew that ;)

Quick disk transfers.
Item is easy to install and works as advertised. The only issue is it requires an X4 PCIe slot and the machine I installed it in has only one X16 and two X1 slots. I'm using it for high-speed external SSD drives for additional volatile storage.

If you need USB-C in an old system, this is the one to get.
I needed 10GB USB-C in an old socket AM3 system with PCIe Gen 2. Card works out of the box, Windows 10 Pro has the driver, no setup needed. Connected a port replicator over an optical USB-C cable. 4K @ 60Hz works perfect, no issues, as do peripherals (mouse, keyboard, microphone, camera, etc).

Great, simple add in card
Startech is a well know and reputable company, producing good products. I needed this card as my motherboard doesn't have a type C compatible header, and I'd recently picked up an Oculus to replace my old Windows MR headset. The card dropped right in and, on the latest Windows release, needed no drivers to be installed (Windows handled all that). The card worked flawlessly and connected my Oculus with no issue. The only downside to this card is the port placement. Both ports are quite high on the card, which in my case (pun intended), made plugging in the cord more difficult than it needed to be. If possible, move the ports down just a little and this is a perfect product.

Labeled USB 3.1 Gen 2, not USB 3.2, but it's the same thing!
Since it's StarTech, I'm sure it's great. What I received was the "old" USB 3.1 card, NOT the 3.2 card. CHECK YOUR PACKAGE when it arrives to be sure you get the right one. UPDATE: after realizing that both USB 3.2 Gen 2 and 3.1 Gen 2 were 10 Gbps, I did some research and what I learned was surprising! "Technical Basis: USB 3.2 Gen 2 is a rebranding of the original USB 3.1 Gen 2 standard by the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) in 2017 to simplify the naming scheme and align it with the USB 3.2 specification." So, I'm retracting my earlier poor review and giving back five stars. I'll do some testing and update if I run into any problems, but otherwise this looks like a brand-new and typically solid StarTech product. It's the same thing - who knew. This is a good product at a good price. I just wish the sellers would update the listing to indicate that they're the same thing so when you receive it, you're not in the dark about why you got less than you thought you'd paid for!

Does not work in my 2018 Dell XPS (Windows 10)
Bottom line - this card does not work in my 2018 Dell XPS. Windows drivers do not recognize the card. Driver provided by manufacture is unstable. I initially got worried when I read the documentation in the box it titled "Download Windows 7 Drivers" Initially, my system wouldn't even boot. After coaxing and driver installation, I could boot most of the time. I attached a USB Drive to the card, which would flake in and out during reads. The drive would suddenly disappear, then a few seconds later, windows would alert me that it found a new USB device and re-attach the drive. The drive works fine after removing the StarTech card and connecting it to the older, slower USB-C port on the motherboard.

Works, but is about 20% slower than the integrated one on the same motherboard.
I have a single Usb 3.2 Gen 2 port integrated on the motherboard. This was intended to augment that to 3. I did some throughput testing, and testing of super fast nvme drives on all ports. Every test I did shows the ports on this card at about 20% slower than the integrated port. It is, however, significantly faster than the 5gbps ports on the board, so it does work. Just don't expect that you'll get identical performance out of it. You'll likely take about a 20% performance hit on the ports like I did. I'm assuming this is due to the ASMedia controller chip it uses being inferior to some of the others.

Looking at the review it's a mixed bag of good and bad. For me it works as it should. Provides power to charge my oculus Quest 3. Installed on windows 11.

The built in port on my Dell XPS 8940 could not provide enough power to charge my iPad Air 5th Generation - resulting in a power surge error. The card was easy to install and my XPS had a spare SATA power cable that I used for the additional power required. This card solved my problem and does a perfect job - thank you StarTech!
