Major Warning!!! Treat these modules with respect. They will set you on your you know what if you aren't very careful. A *brief* touch to a 9 volt battery will pop out an inch long spark and a loud snap. They are NOT rated for 9 volts, and operating in that range will destroy them quickly. The dielectric properties of insulation are absolute. Exceed it, and it perforates. Period. I marked the module I tested, and plan to discard it. They are also not rated for high current, so include a (high voltage) resistor in your final circuit. Remember that at 400 kilovolts, it only takes a current of 0.0025 milliamps to produce 1 watt of current. And that would probably be about the limit to these, unless someone wants to do some destructive testing. Quarter watt resistors aren't going to do the job, which is why I said HIGH VOLTAGE resistors. If you don't run them continuously, and don't exceed the input voltage constraints, great. Just don't complain when they stop working.

BEST HIGH VOLTAGE MODULES ON THE MARKET !
Best HIGH VOLTAGE MODULES you can buy !!! I've been using these modules from this company for several years --- and never had an issue with them ! These modules will last a long time if you use them right and take care of them ! The best battery to use with these is a 3.7volt lithium-ion battery (18650) ! Also, just always fire them in short bursts --- or they will burn out ! These modules Are not designed to be on for any length of time ! Also, it is best to keep the discharge terminals about 1/4"--1/2" apart ! If you have them too far apart --- this could also damage the modules (although they will certainly produce bolts several inches long) ! These modules produce very loud, crackling noise when they discharge , and very bright light too ! The red wire is positive (+) --- the green wire is negative (-) --- this is the end that connects to the battery ! On the other end, you will have two wires that are the same color (usually black) --- this is the OUTPUT END --- these are the two wires that carry the high voltage --- DO NOT touch these two wires if you have the battery connected to them --- or you will get the SHOCK OF YOUR LIFE !!! Anyway --- if you need some very high voltage modules for your DIY project --- these are definitely the ones to get ! VERY HIGH QUALITY !!! DEFINITELY WORTH THE MONEY !!!

These voltage converters work great now, but for some reason when I first got them in the mail, they did not work for 2 days. But when I tried 3 days later, they worked.

Best upgrade for bug zapper rackets.
Iām using these to turbo charge electric fly swatter rackets. I cut the circuit board inside the handle of the zapper racket leaving only the switch and solder the module inline with the switch. This amps up the 3,000-4,000 volt zapper racket to 300,000-400,000 volts. I work in Alaska where we have a lot of mosquitoes and the upgraded racket absolutely smokes the little bastards in an satisfying array of dancing electric sparks. From mosquitoes to hornets, this thing does the trick. Iāve gone through 30-40 of them and havenāt found a dud yet so Iām very satisfied. UPDATE: As of 2022 Iāve upgraded several hundred electric fly swatters and to my knowledge I havenāt had one fail on me yet. I did try hooking one up to a 9v battery and it didnāt appear to do anything. When I reduced it back to 6v (2 x AA) it popped and snapped as you would expect. In order to get the increased voltage using a 9v battery Iād recommend purchasing to ones labeled in Amazon as ā6v - 9v to 1,000,000v 1,000kv voltage generatorā. In reality theyāre nowhere near that voltage, but they will allow you to smoke just about any flying insect you come across.

Just testing the first one seems to be working well. 3V in pulled ~9 watts (~2 amps), I put a 5 ohm 10 watt resistor on it so it hopefully won't cook itself.

Fine for what they are..
They work as advertised but pay careful attention to the specs. They are very fragile; that is, they are very easy to accidently destroy. That is actually all good, so why only 3 stars? The extreme fragility really makes them unsuitable for high voltage exeirments and educational purposes unless you consider "how to break things by not carefully considering the specifications", education. You may also gain an education on how not to get knocked on your *ss while you are at it ;-) Play with care. Make sure any connected electrodes and spaced as indicated, 10mm to 20mm apart. Use too little space and the arc will be too hot, drawing too much current, and quickly destroying the generator. Space them too far apart and they won't arc at all, except inside the generator, destroying it. If everything is just right, they work great, but not for more than several fews of seconds! Low duty cycle! This is all in the description so the seller is not trying to mislead anyone... but not everyone reads the details. Even though I expected better, I may well buy a few more. They do work and a high voltage source that will take more abuse, could get pretty pricey. On the other hand, these are a bit pricey for "throw aways". I am guessing in/for their intended operation/use they get used very rarely and only briefly, so they would be perfectly suitable.

Nowhere near 400KV, obviously. The description suggests a maximum 20mm spark gap which indictates more like 60KV but I wouldn't try it, personally. Regardless, these things rock! Having done some testing, I don't suggest over-driving these units. They push hard enough at 6V and won't survive being abused. That said, here are the data I've collected from a single randomly selected unit (1 of 5) 3V > 1.9KV 4V > 3.3KV 5V > 5.5KV 6V > 7.0KV 7V > 8.3KV 8V > 9.7KV 9V > 11.1KV 10V > 12.3KV In my opinion these units are best driven at 5V for an 1100x increase to 5.5KV as more input power, even 6V, hardly increases the multiplication factor and dramatically increases the stress on the components even producing a high pitched squeal that would go unheard during normal use as the sparks are LOUD, and likely go unrecognized until the unit fails. Overall, I love these little monsters and highly recommend them of you like inexpensive fun! Just be safe, don't abuse them and temper your expectations. 400KV would jump over 5" easily and my gap is only 3/8" in the video. Still, super fun :)

I used a 9v and fried one of them. 5v seems to work best but anything lower is not powerful at all.

Works well, have been using this for a couple months as an ignition system for a pulsejet.

Used by my son, he told me not every item works, sometimes he need take the component out and replace with another one. I guess that is why they sell a bunch instead just a single oneā¦
