The device works as designed. Over time, the electrical push connections have required pulling on and off motion to clean any built up corrosion. Sometimes it doesn’t spark and you have to go under and push-pull on the connectors, then it works again.

Great price. Easy to install. The correct part for my 30+ year old Weber grill. This completed a full rebuild of the inside of grill, and I'm looking forward to another 30 years of using it.

I picked up an older Weber Summit 450, made sometime between 1997 and 2001 by my estimate (serial # is long gone from the sticker, so I'm going by photos in old owner's manuals found online). The grill has held up pretty well over the last 20ish years but the crossover burner tubes and the igniters were completely shot and needed to be replaced. Weber usually stands behind their products and sells replacement parts, but since the Summits from this time period never sold nearly as well as the cheaper Genesis and Spirit grills, information and parts are a little more scarce. I had to take a bit of a gamble on these igniters because while some sources claimed they would fit, the Weber literature would not come out and say so. But the good news is they do fit perfectly, without modification. And the quality is very good, as expected for a Weber product. Good installation instructions too. I hope to get 10-20 years out of these. Incidentally I found the crossover burner tubes too... under 20 bucks for those, so all told I spent less than $50 to restore two decades' worth of wear and tear on this well-built grill. Gotta love Weber!

Perfect replacement but lasts about 2 years before rusting out. Shield should be stainless not aluminum.

Your first clue you need this part is that your igniter becomes unreliable under humid conditions. It may work on dry sunny days but not on a rainy day. It is also a given that this item wears out in several years. After all, it is essentially an spark generator exposed to its enemies: grease, heat, and unlimited outdoor humidity. Consider this a wear item that is very reliable and inexpensive during its lifetime. In brief, very high quality for a reasonable price ($10) and it only takes a few minutes to replace. The only tool you will want to complete the installation is a screwdriver or pliers to remove and reinstall the tab which holds the ignition chamber in position. I bought two because I know in two or three summers the grill will be hard to start again and I'll have one conveniently available. Go Weber!

This is a genuine Weber part. Good quality at a very reasonable price. This igniter fits older style Weber grills (my Genesis grill was manufactured circa 2002), as there is a threaded retention nut on the ingiter body. This kit takes about 15 minutes to install. The top metal deck on the grill must be removed first, in order to remove the old igniter, and to install the new igniter. The hardest part of this task was removing the retention nut on the old igniter, as it was corroded and difficult to grasp with a wrench or pliers. Otherwise, replacing the ingiter assembly is a fairly simple procedure. While you're doing this project, be sure to replace the old stainless steel flame box inside your grill (a new one is included with this replacement igniter kit), as if you need to replace the ingiter, your old flame box has probably begun to deteriorate as well.

I used this as a replacement on a 10+ year old weber that I just got. It works perfect. I have no idea how long they last but I assume it will be years, I'm a little dissapointed weber doesn't make a electronic model as an upgrade for the older grills, I mean they make stainless grates, stainless flavorizer bars...why not an updated electronic ignition....This is extremely easy to install and seems to light the grill instantly. I was a little surprised that it has always started on the first press...maybe it's the box design to hold the gas but I remember on other grills (non weber brand) they never started on the first push. Just when you buy this make sure your buying the correct one as weber makes 2 models, the black button and red button model

I have an unknown model spirit 2 weber BBQ and it is also an unknown year. I bought it long enough ago that I can’t remember when I bought it and for a barbecue that is a good thing. All the data labels are gone but it has 2 controls on the right end. I have replaced the flavor bars at least two times. Then the manual click igniter failed. No complaints but the instructions failed to suggest that you probably only need the spark device inside the burn pan. Mine was a loose accumulation of burnt metal. It still sparked great but wouldn’t gather enough gas to ignite it. This unit is perfect for mine. So, to install just take the 5 flavor bars and the 2 grates out and click the sparker to see if you get a little spark out of the corroded shell of the igniter, you probably will. If so just grab the old corroded igniter and yank it out. Pull off the wires that attach to the spark generator underneath the rocker switch from underneath the control panel. The replacement spark unit inside the burn pan will slide into two holes. A big hole and a small hole. Thread the white wire through the small hole and the black wire through the big hole. They can only install one way. Once you have it inserted, reach underneath and carefully bend the metal tab next to the black wire 90° to secure it in place. Run the white wire to the small outer terminal on the spark generator and the black wire to the center terminal on the spark generator. They can only be installed one way so you can’t mix them up. Before you do anything else click the rocker switch several times and see if you can hear a tiny spark inside the burn pan. Better still use your iPhone and take a picture video as you are merrily clicking the rocker switch. If you see a spark great. Now turn on the gas And see if it will ignite the burn rails. If it does you’re ready to close it up. Reinstall the five flavor bars and the two top grates and you’re done.
