Excellent quality. Maximum brightness.
Great all around bike light. I have used a few different lights for road riding including the Cygolite Expilion 850, which has the same mounting system and is excellent. This light is superior in illumination to my other lights but by far the most handy feature for me has been the ability to go from any brightness setting straight to “Boost” with just a double tap of the power button, then return to the previous setting with a single tap. This is most useful just before a decent when it’s dark outside and you want to have maximum brightness for obstructions on the pavement, including wildlife. This also helps to maximize battery strength since slower speeds do not require the same brightness. The battery is solid and recharges quickly via micro USB port. I would buy this light again today if this was lost or broken. Update: Sept. 2020 After nearly 4 months of regular use, my experience has only increased my appreciation for the quality and strength of this product. My commute is about 90 minutes one way, for a total of 3-3.5 hours (without recharging) of bright, consistent illumination. The snaps securely into the mount and once in place, there is no wobble or shaking. Highly recommend! UPDATE: July 2021, one year later… Still going strong. Great on the recharge and battery is still as long lasting as when new. This light is built for longevity and I couldn’t be happier with the performance and consistency that this product offers. UPDATE 2025: STILL This light is illuminating the path of my rides. I use it during daylight hours with “flash” mode as well as the steady beam during night rides. The quality and durability is unlike any other product I’ve tried. I would still not hesitate to buy this again, but the way it’s going I may never have to!

This is is a great headlight
I’ve had a CyGolite 350 with a replaceable battery for a decade. I thought it was bright. Having 1200 is almost ridiculous. I tend to ride into dusk. Not completely dark. This unit makes it illuminated and safe. Plan to commute this fall. Cygolight makes the only rear light anyone should consider. It’s perfect. The 1200 Lumen front light is all you need up front. I may get another one as a backup as they don’t make the the replaceable battery unit anymore

1400 lumens is too much for dark country roads.
Bought the ranger expecting to need the extra light for regular night rides. The brightest (1400 lumen) setting is too bright for most roads, lighting up paint in an irritating way and drawing the ire of motorists. The middle setting (900 lumen) is plenty for riding fast on any paved road. The mounting clamp can interfere with external cable routing if you aren't paying attention, but it's secure, and the quick release / pivot mechanism allows convenient adjustment in all directions while riding. I'm thrilled with this light, the overkill highest setting does come handy for uneven, unmarked pavement. There's a "boost" mode, too, which may require an FAA permit to operate near airports.

Mounting is poor - Not satisfied with product support's answer
Another poster noted the below, please read it because it's exactly the same experience I have with this product. Great light but the mounting system and customer service is subpar: The Cygolight Ranger is a very bright light. However, the mounting bracket included with the light did not initially fit my 32 mm diameter handlebars. So I bought a mounting bracket from Cygolite that was described as fitting up to 32 mm handlebars. When I received the bracket, I discovered that this mount was exactly the same as the one that came with the light. Then I noticed in instructions for the bracket it was stated that, in order to mount on 32 mm handlebars, the rubber spacers need to be removed. But there was no mention of this in the instructions that came with the light. I think Cygolite was at fault for not mentioning in the instructions for the Ranger 1400 that, in order to mount on 32 mm handlebars, the rubber spacers need to be removed. I had not thought of that, since it appeared to me that the rubber would be necessary to grip the handlebar adequately and therefore that the rubber pads should not be removed. Nevertheless, I went ahead and removed the rubber pads and the bracket then did fit the 32 mm handlebars. However, without these soft pads, the bracket did indeed slip, just like I thought it would. It would not stay in position with the light attached to it, despite tightening it as much as I could. I solved the slipping problem by putting a thin, friction fabric between the handlebar and the mounting bracket. Furthermore, I didn't like it when Cygolite customer service told me that in order to get my money back for the bracket, I would have to pay shipping again, which meant that the cost of shipping it to me and my returning it would be $8 (for a $16 bracket). And then there is the inconvenience of having to go to a shipper to send it back

Nice Self-Contained Light
I bought this as an upgrade to a Cygolite Metro 800 with a damaged charging port. I use it as a bar light, and it works really well for that. The beam pattern is wide enough to light up the entire trail and it's bright enough that other riders on group rides have commented on it. It's also flexible - I can use it as a standalone light, or I can plug in a USB power bank and have practically infinite battery life even on high. I did forget to charge it after a ride once and on the next ride even after the button started blinking I got about half an hour of riding in before it died. That's plenty of warning that you're going to lose your light, so although I try to avoid that situation it's nice to know it isn't going to shut off suddenly. I did run it as a helmet light once, and although it may be a little heavy for that purpose it did work fine. Like the Metro 800, the light output is very stable. While I'm sure there's some reduction in brightness, it's not noticeable like it was on some other lights I've used. Overall I'm very happy with this light and for not much more than the cost of a Metro 800 this is definitely the way to go, unless you insist on the smaller size and weight of the 800.

Awesome Cygolite Ranger 1400 replaces my still very useful Cygolite Metyro 500 which is now relegated to secondary light; no problem with using the clamp that came with the Ranger on my 1997 Gary Fisher Big Sur stock System 1 handlebars.

If you are riding at night, lights aren't really in the category of "optional". You need to be able to see your path and be seen by others. This light it brilliantly bright and offers a multitude of modes to suit a variety of conditions. Weatherproof (IP67), a good internal battery, and a very secure mount for your handlebars. It might be tempting to get some cheap knock-off but given the dangers of an unreliable light I'd think investing the extra money in something like this is a much more rational decision.

Great light with lots of options for both flash and full on. Good quality but you pay for it. Only complaint is that the brightness in full flash mode irritates some oncoming cars or people- but it sure gets you noticed and that is its purpose. Holds a charge well.
