Genuine Toyota Wiper Insert

A little expensive for rubber, but really nice, Don’t throw away your original Toyota wipers, please!!!

I got a couple of these from the seller Evans Toyota, and they are very good. I was getting both this one for the left wiper, and the right one as well from my local Toyota dealer, and they were fine, but rather overpriced. Getting OEM refills like this for my original Toyota wiper blades saves a bunch of money on unnecessarily changing the entire blade every time the rubber wears out, and the OEM rubber is of better quality and lasts longer than those overpriced blades found in auto parts stores. The only drawback to refills like this is that it can be a bit of a job getting the old rubber off the blade and getting the new one on, but it's worth it. I've found it helps to clean the rubber once in a while with a paper towel soaked with some acetone (acetone is flammable, and also will melt paint and coatings, so be very careful if you use it). Note - this item is just the wiper rubber refill, not the wiper blade.

Appears to be new rubber and fits and works perfectly once you get it installed. But it is JUST the rubber piece , so you must carefully remove the old rubber blade, fish the two wire side pieces out of it, install the two wire side pieces into this new rubber blade, and then carefully reinsert the whole assembly back into the wiper arm. Make sure that the prongs on the wiper arm are in the correct groove of the rubber blade because if they pop out , they could scratch your windshield !

I used to replace the entire wiper blade assembly on previous cars that I've owned (probably taught to do that when I was younger, or perhaps tricked by marketing over the years). I was searching for new wipers for my Prius... but found that other owners were complaining about the fit of many aftermarket wiper blades. I found several suggestions to simply buy the OEM replacement wiper inserts. So I did. Amazon's website automatically offered the correct size grouping for my pre-saved car. I searched the youtubes, and found instructional videos for blade removal on the front and back, and another video about replacing Toyota rubber wiper inserts. It probably took me 15 minutes to find and watch the videos, remove the old ones, and install the new ones. And they work fine. I think the dealer only charges $35 for this, but I forget exactly. But you might save a little money.

These fit like a charm. The way the Prius blade is constructed, unless you buy an OEM replacement you'll have to replace the entire arm/blade assembly. I purchased a few sets of the generic ones and after a period, each of them would leave streaks or chatter never living up to the OEM products. Problem is, a single blade at the dealer costs as much as two of the generic replacements. Fortunately, I saved my OEM arms and replaced with these blades and all is great. OEM is best for this application in my opinion.

I bought three wiper blade refills for our 3rd Generation Prius -- to fit the original blade assemblies (two at the front, plus one at the rear), for which my closest Toyota dealer says refills are no longer available, as the original blades have been replaced by a new model for which -- by design -- replaceable inserts are not available. I was surprised that the three inserts were simply stuffed into the shipping bag without any individual labeled bags, but they do look like the genuine article and came from a Toyota dealer in Ohio. They probably came from "bulk packs." I could have bought whole blade assemblies for not a whole lot more, but the only ones I could find are of a higher profile than the originals and would therefore generate more wind drag.

Works as expected.

Read this know that I'm a super handy guy... Okay, you have two options. Buy a replacement wiper from Toyota which will take exactly 30 seconds to install or buy this single piece of rubber and try to salvage the old wiper arm and extract the old rubber from under all the little metal teeth, then slide the new rubber on under all those little metal teeth-clips... omg! If I had to do it again, I MIGHT, depending on how I feel. Because I'm handy and if I was bored at home because of a pandemic and had nothing to do... Yes. Otherwise, I'd pay the extra $10 and get a Toyota OEM replacement and be done with it.
