Who Was Nelson Mandela?

These are GREAT books for students in grades 3 and 4. Very age appropriate, but with just enough information to give them what they need for a report of project. The diversity of topics in this series is wonderful. I would highly recommend them to anyone wanting to do research with elementary students.

Read the book to my 7 year old in a full hour with water breaks LOL! Overall easy read a few words you will have to explain however the big words already equipped in the text were already elaborated. 7 year old understood everything from A to Z and enjoyed the comparison the book provided regarding Gandhi MLK and Nelson Mandela. I got a little teary eyed at the end. Beauty behind A painful history..

High interest for my 4th grade students, a difficult topic to understand when you lack a world-view, but this book bridges that gap well! Would recommend for an elementary biography unit.

Love these books. My son, who is 9 has been reading them for a little over a year now and this book is wonderful. I must say that this one is not one of his favorites. He is a history junkey, lol. He so far seems to love the Jackie Robinson, Teddy Roosevelt, Abraham Lincoln, Robert E Lee, What is the world series the best as a 8 and 9 year old. I also read these to him in the evenings and I really enjoy them as a 40 year old father. I have learned so much from them as well. Sometimes I read them before or after my son in order to have an educated discussion with him about the subject of the book. I really also get alot out of them as well.

Great, kid-friendly read. Mature themes communicates in a way children can understand. This book will help a young generation carry on Mandela 's legacy

Book was a great tool for my students to learn about racial injustice and the impact of Nelson Mandela had on his people.

My children read the book and learned a great deal. It’s like History written for children between the ages of 7 and 12. We order a few of these books when schools were closed - during the Corona pandemic as a way to continue their education.

政治や法律的な単語が使われていますので、やや難しく感じるかもしれません。 2013年にマンデラが亡くなりましたが、アパルトヘイトに反対したこと、27年間投獄されていたこと、ノーベル平和賞を受賞したことくらいしか知らなかったので、読んでみました。 非暴力不服従という点で、ガンジーやマーティン・ルーサー・キング Jrとの共通点が多く、彼らについても簡単に記述されていて、非常に興味深い内容でした。 マンデラは若い頃から法律を学び、統治することを夢見ていました。このような、教育のバックボーンがあったからこそ、自分が理想とする民主主義の実現のために、長い獄中生活を経ても信念が揺るぐことが、なかったのでしょう。アパルトヘイト下では、政府が教育法を成立させ学校で子供たちに黒人は白人より劣ると教えることを強制します。この場面では、為政者が自己の都合で事実を歪めて教育を利用する恐ろしさを感じました。 マンデラは釈放後も一度も暴力による闘争をせずに、白人と平等の権力者を獲得することを目指し、白人とともに働くことを嫌がる黒人を説得します。白人による黒人の虐殺事件があったり、27年間も、投獄されていたりすれば普通だったら、恨みが蓄積していくであろうに全く方針がブレ無かったのは、凄いとしか言いようがありません。 80歳で3度目の結婚をしていたことも凄かったですが。
