50298 Cricket Cage 6", Red

I don’t know about you but it’s not very often that I say “I need a cricket cage”, actually I think the last time may have been in the middle of June 1970 something. Yeah that was it I was fishing with my dad and my brother on Toledo Bend Reservoir on the Louisiana-Texas border in a 14’ aluminum flat bottom boat equipped with a 20 horsepower Johnson outboard with a Zebco 202 in my hand. If my memory serves me right it was a typical summer day, the sun was brutal and several cans of our favorite Hawaiian Punch was chilling in the styrofoam ice-chest, the bluegill were hungry and the crickets were chirping their favorite song. I don’t recall the brand name of that cricket cage back then but I can’t imagine there are many manufacturers that ever built and sold these devices but I do know when I planned a similar outing recently I knew I’d need one of these things and when it arrived oh it was so familiar. I mean how can you improve such a simple device, it’s functionality was perfected decades ago, the material seems the same the large removable cap on the bottom is for filling the cylinder, the small funnel shape top for dispensing the crickets one at a time, and it comes with a lanyard for toting or hanging possibly on a tree limb. I like the quality of the product and I also like that this design comes in two different sizes and it’s reasonably priced and shipped fast…

I had one like this when I was a kid and this works just as well. Grasshoppers go in one at a time and come out one at a time when you need them. Just make sure you put them in head first. Came a little dented from coming in Amazon soft packaging, but nothing that a day at the River wouldn’t cause anyway.

I really like the small opening to put the grasshoppers in when catching them otherwise they would all come out. I also can just open the small end and one only fits through and usually you can shake it and one will come out. They also stay alive for days in the cage. They straps make it easy to keep up with too.

It will not contain small (1/4 inch or smaller) crickets. They can squeeze through the mesh holes. Sometimes they get out and sometimes they just get stuck. I have used this type of keeper before and for larger crickets, it's great but not the tiny ones.

Works and easy to use but bigger than expected, didn't fit in my tackle box. Quality construction, just too big for me.

I needed this for my working dogs where I put source inside. It is well made, no inferior construction. Very happy. Will buy more in the future.

Does what it supposed to do.
