Best $20 small flashlight ever!
What can one say about Maglite? Their the best! I have a full size Mag and several of the mini's. I love the Mini-Mag LED!!! FIrst off their as indestructable as a light is gonna come. Serious shock resistance... Serious water resistance... Not a hammer and not a diver's light but as close as the most of us will ever need. Secondly their weight is about right. Heavy enough to protect them but not so heavy that it can't be carried in a pack in the outdoors. Next up is the grip, it does have a nice checkered pattern etched into the shell that gives a good grip even with gloves or even when wet. Battery life always depends on usage but is about average for most AA lights. Like most LED's, bulb life is advertised as 100K hours. While I don't think it will last that long, it will make it long enough to make you feel it was a worthwile investment, and the bulb probably won't be what fails first anyway. Next lets talk about light...four-funtions of light! By twisting the bezel counter-clockwise it turns on the full power beam. Now it's not the brightest compact light in the world (that distiction goes to lithium powers tactical lights) but for a AA Alkaline powered light, it the brightest I've seen. Brighter infact than my 3AA powered Gerber TX3.0! I haven't done a distance comparison between them yet, but I can tell you that sitting in my chair in the woods camping, the Mini-Mag illuminates distances up to 30' like daylight! I'm not kidding! Distances up 50' can be seen pretty well assuming there isn't too much clutter to cast shadows. Also a big plus; unlike previous generations of Mini-Mag LED's, the bezel can adjusted to focus the beam. Finally turning it clockwise until it tightens and stops will turn off the light. Now that was one fuction... Turning the bezel couter-clockwise and then back off, then counter-clockwise (or on-off-on) within about 3 seconds will take you to mode #2...low power. According to the box it's about 25% power. I find it to be a great reading light, map light for the car, light to look in small spaces where too much power could "wash out" or blind your eyes. In fact I use it for navigation in total darkness. That way I'm not totally blind when I turn off my light. Next mode #3... (from off... on-off-on-off-on) It's a flasher that flashes at about 1 flash per second. Great for signaling! I speak from experence here. I had a family member lost after a hike that got past sundown. I hiked to a ridgetop right off the road then used this flasher to help them locate me. It worked! It's not a high speed strobe so it's not a defense tool, but as a locator signal, I give it a useful thumbs up! Finally mode #4... (from off... on-off-on-off-on-off-on) S.O.S. mode. I seriously doubt anyone of us will be so lost or standed that we'll be signaling passing planes and ships but hey I guess if you were... In all seriousness though if it's all you've got, it could help you be found by rescures or a passer-by. Consider this, a 100% truely dead car battery, meaning no 4-way flashers. It addition helping show that you need help with this almost universally recognized help signal, it also helps make your vehicle visible avoiding a potentially deadly accident. All in all, perhaps a little gimicky, perhaps not...it all depends on what you intend to do with your new light. One final word about the bezel switch. After about 3 to 5 seconds of sitting in either the off or on position, the next time the light is turned on it will return to full power output (AKA mode # 1). I'm not kidding when I say this is my favorite product I've ever reviewed! There's so many uses! And everyone has need of it, they may just not know it yet!

Perfect Mini Mag UPDATE
NEW COMMENTS: When I don't sleep well, I have a short temper. I didn't sleep well, last night. So, when my LED Minimag didn't stay on, this morning; I lost my temper and slammed the flashlight against a desk, hard enough to dent the edge of the desk and scare my Lab out of a perfectly good squirrel dream. I decided to strip the flashlight for parts, and in the process I discovered that the battery compartment "cap" (on the butt end) was not tight. After tightening that cap, the flashlight worked like new. Here are two new comments about this product: 1. Make sure the end cap is screwed on tightly (but you already knew that). 2. Don't whack the flashlight against expensive furniture (it's bad for the furniture and scares dogs). Maglite, I apologize for doubting the durability of this little flashight; and I take back the nasty things I said when I thought mine had failed. This thing is TOUGH (just not idiot-proof)! ORIGINAL REVIEW: Love the gray color, size and light weight. I think this 2 cell puts out as bright a light as my 3 cell. I presume the batteries in the 3 cell might last a little longer, but it is an awkward size to carry on my belt. Anyway, this little 2 cell LED model is great! I don't remember the Amazon description saying anything about a selector "switch" that allows you to choose full power beam, reduced (battery saving) beam, steady flashing light, or a flashing SOS (3 shorts, 3 longs, 3 shorts). When I read that on the packaging, I couldn't find a "switch". Just by accident, I found that by turning the light off and back on changes the setting. The reduced beam is plenty bright for most needs and is supposed to extend the battery life significantly. I presume all these 2 cell LED Mini Mags have that feature, but maybe it was just mine. If they all DO have that feature, Amazon should surely say so, because it is a great selling point. I see some reviewers try to compare Maglites to other brands; but some of the other brands they mention cost triple what I paid for this little Mini Mag gem. In this price range, I don't think you can beat it. Buy several, because they make welcome gifts (just ask my daughter, ha).

Excellent
Well, here I am wring a review of a flashlight, giving you the idea that I have too much free time on my hands. But. This is a great flashlight. Not too big and not too little, although I was a little bit surprised about how big it was (they were) when I got it in the mail. But no free lunch. You want a bright light, which this is, in a fairly small package that you can carry around, then you need the bigger size for the batteries. It is VERY bright and in the dark if you flash it in the distance it works just like a big, powerful flashlight. Great. And about carrying it, fit comes with a very niche case for the belt. I live in Thailand and feed and help dogs in the night so people don't pay me too much attention and so I can hug the dogs. I put the flashlight in my mouth and use my two hands to help the dogs, for example checking for ticks in their ears. It is so bright. Speaking of that, I had to HUNT on the Internet for how to adjust the brightness. Here it is. Twist it open once for super bright, twist it closed and then open again quickly for not so bright (the dogs like this one better), and do it again and again for two other modes, SOS and flash on and off I think it is, but I never use them. If you would like to help us with the dogs, please visit DogAidThailand on Facebook. Sorry about asking for help, but we sure could use it. Enjoy this flashlight. I have a red and a black one (I put tape on the end--not the end end but toward the end of the flashlight where you put the batteries in) so it does not hurt my mouth)and I am going to try to get the blue one the next time someone flies to Thailand.

Da la luz suficiente para trabajar en lugares oscuros o al anochecer. Aunque las hay de más lumenes, en mi caso la quería pequeña para llevar en la cazadora o mochila pequeña

Lost my MAGLITE of many years so there was no hesitation to buy another. Decided to upgrade to LED and this thing is a Lighting BEAST. Unbelievable light from such a small device. Quality beyond expectation. This will last me many years if I don't lose it...to a sailing crew member who keeps borrowing it...
