THE Doom Collection to Have for Halloween!
I have been a big fan of doom since it's release for PC many years ago now it's released for the ps3 and it's Fantastic I really was amazed at how well they redid the graphics for Doom 3 and the controls on all three Dooms are exactly like mainstream FPS games (like CoD and Battlefield) using R1 to shoot R2 to change weapons L1 for flashlight (Doom 3 only) what's more amazing is they have all THREE games running at a silky smooth 60 Frames Per Second which makes the older games look much better then previous ports. the sound effects are exact as they should be and the option to play FOUR player split screen on Doom 1, 2, and Online MP for Doom 3 just makes this a Must Have package for doom lovers everywhere. they also included Online Multiplayer for Doom 3 and while simple compared to todays mainstream shooters, it's still a blast to play with multiple game modes Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Tourney (one on one deathmatch) and Last Man (be the Sole Survivor). I am about 3 hours now into Doom, 5 hours into Doom 2 and about 6 hours into Doom 3 and if you're looking for a good scare for Halloween this just might be what you're looking for. Graphics: Doom 1 and 2 are smoother but mostly the same monster textures are smoother though (doom 1 and 2) Doom 3 looks Fantastic with it's HD makeover and is so creepy compared to most games from this gen. 5 stars Sound: excellent and exact in D1 and 2 Doom 3 really shines here I am talking sound effects that will set you up to be scared and you will jump, trust me. easily 5 stars Gameplay: thankfully they tuned all THREE games to run perfectly off the dualshock which makes the game control without effort, also lots of options for gamma, and sensitivity for the speed for turning etc. 5 stars! Fun: after all these years Doom 3 still makes me jump and I love it. Doom 1 is as fun as I remember with all secrets right where they were in the original release. Doom 2 looks as good plus all hidden areas are still hidden well and the game plays perfectly Doom 3 is the perfect halloween scare game for me with it's Moody sounds and Creepy effects plus the Hd graphics. 5 stars! Overall: some long load times and slightly intrusive Game Saves (autosave)(sometimes the autosave takes you out of the moment and is annoying fortunately it's mainly before a cutscene or at the end of a level. these are about the only mar on an otherwise perfect Doom release package. Multiplayer is a blast and the single player is just as fun if not more fun then I had remembered. the graphical overhaul will have you on the edge of your seat since it really brought out the creepy atmosphere of this game. I'd recommend the Doom 3 BFG edition to anyone not just FPS fans. that's saying something. 5 stars for a perfect collection, possibly the best HD collection this year! if you're question is "is it worth it?" the answer is simple and easy "Yes it is!" UPDATE: it seems Doom 1 and Doom 2 have Online MP as well as offline split screen. I just found this out today as I began playing and got an invite from a friend, I was shocked we were co-op (ing) the campaign together. just too bad they Removed this option from Doom 3 but still a superb package of games.

Best version of the complete Doom 3 experience (also on 360)
Im an avid Doom fan. I enjoyed Doom 3 & ROE expansion on PC and Xbox. This BFG edition is the better version that added some quality of life things that modders put it, like the flashlight being attached to the guns. I do like have to swap between them, as it adds to the horror and fear the game intended originally. That being aside, the upgraded resolution to 720p on the PS3 compared to the OG Xbox 480p. Also contains Lost Missions pack, for another Marines side story to the same events and Digital in menu versions of Doom 1 and Doom 2. As for Canon story, Doom 3 is not canon to the main Doom Marine Timeline from Doom 1, 2 and Doom 64. The in-game timeline conflicts with those events and suggests its a parallel universe. Despite the technicality there, Doom 3 is a fun corridor FPS with more of a horror take than the rest of the series.

A formerly disappointed Doom 3 owner in LOVE....
When I originally purchased Doom 3 on the PC, my computer slightly exceeded minimum specs, but performance was still lackluster to put it nicely. I was pretty disappointed and after a few frustrating deaths arising from the inability of my PC to keep up, I simply gave up. When I purchased my Alienware last year, I came across Doom 3 gathering dust in one of my CD folders and tried to do it again. Bitter irony - my graphics card would not break a sweat, of course, but it wouldn't play nice with the NEW card because of antiquated code. However, I was excited to see that they were going back to remaster Doom 3 for consoles and the PC in HD and upgrade the sound. And now...I am a HAPPY Doom 3 owner. :) How does performance stack up? Buttery, and I mean BUTTERY, smooth!! This game does show its age; for its time, textures/shadows/lighting were pushing extremes but you can tell that Doom 3--despite its HD makeover--came from a different time. But it's still a fun, scary ride and to run it at full bore on the PS3 with nary a hiccup is an absolute joy. An even bigger bonus for me is that now I can play it in 3D. And it looks GREAT in 3D - the visual separation is extremely well-done and it's hard to imagine that this game was never rendered in this format to begin with; it really adds an additional layer of fear seeing hellspawn rush at you as you frantically blanket the screen with gunfire. Doom 3 is packaged with the expansion pack entitled Resurrection of Evil and also comes with additional levels referred to as the "Lost Mission." I haven't run through these yet, but I can already tell you that they will not disappoint given how my first few hours have gone this far. And for the truly nostalgic, Doom 3 BFG Edition comes with the ORIGINAL 1st person shooter titles of Doom and Doom 2, the games that followed id's path from Wolfenstein to help define FPS as they have evolved today. Doom won't fill your widescreen (keep in mind that this title is 20 years old now!), but it's surprisingly well-rendered in a PS3 environment and it wasn't as blocky as I first feared it might be. I keep finding myself wanting to jump, crouch, aim down sights, etc., but it's a pretty good LOL moment when you realize that this game REALLY pre-dated those aspects of your typical FPS today. At $39.99, it's not a bad value especially for a nostalgic guy like me. For anything less, I'd say that it's a MUST HAVE if you're NOT the nostalgic type. Great job!

No split screen on 3 sucks but good game, you probably already know what you're buying though

Scary, no. good. yes.
Graphics in this game are as good as some current gen game. the visual effects and tricks are nice. many things have been added over the original Doom 3. not just graphics. Doom and Doom II are also included. the copy is well created. but they're too old to play. basically a 2.5 D game. I got it for $10 bucks. so its pretty much worth that. UPDATE Knocked a star off because the game is fun. but it isn't what i would call groundbreaking or even great. its not bad. doom 4 is coming out soon. its a good time to catch up. and if you like old FPS 2.5D retro games. Doom 1, 2 will be really good. Graphics are good. the environment and UI looks modern. but characters and enemies look bad, even for when this game came out 10 years ago. should have been worked on the graphics more. for a game its age. its great. definitely worth picking up. I got it for $10 dollars. so it was a steal. great variety of weapons. I hated some game mechanics. weird enemies. flying burning heads. flying burning fish.lol - enemies spawn 99% of times behind you. so it gets old about 10 minutes into the game but they keep doing it - when you get attacked. the screen wiggles violently up and down. making it hard to shoot enemies - enemies spawn in a weird way. some portal appears and then a lightning and they spawn .lol - sometimes enemies spawn right under you - game is not scary what so ever. not even close - somewhat a corridor walker. - no zoom aiming - what I hated most. in every single place. you have to unlock a door and get in. that is always your mission. I guess thats the purpose of the game Stuff I liked - game made good use of AI and environment - made good use of PDA and its features - weapons variety - good level design. for the most part as I said. good game. but not great. it was released 10 years ago. but there were better games back then too.

My childhood has come back!
Seeing that Doom 3 BFG Edition had the HD collection of the original Doom games made this purchase almost a no-brainer in my book. I grew up on the original Doom game, owning it both for PC and SNES. It was time to relive the glory days on this PS3 re-release. Firstly I will say after playing Doom 3 - I was sad to realize the magic of the original Doom games was gone. Maybe I was too used to the 2D action, but this vastly upgraded Doom universe just didn't have the correct feel to me. It was semi-haunting and a lot of blowing things up, but it wasn't what I always felt Doom was. So to rate it as a "Doom" game is just unfair. I kept comparing...I had to really step back and play this game as a fresh FPS. As a FPS I think the game delivered. The controls were a bit stiff, but after some getting used to it really wasn't all that bad. The graphics were decent, and the voice acting was great! I think the story lacked a bit in depth, but in all fairness it was most likely a last ditch effort. It seemed as I kept playing that killing, guns and visuals were the main focus of the developers. If that's what they were going for, they hit it on the head. It was a fun shoot 'em up, a good "stop thinking" game. Probably frighten small children in the dark too, so kudos for that! I only played through the game once, I have no desire to again. Which is sad considering the high replay value of the original Doom. Still, for the HD collection it was worth buying and giving it a run through. Now onto the Doom 1 and 2. These were just as much, if not more fun than I remember them being as kids. The gritty graphics and amazing gun choices still made my mouth salivate, as I carved my way through the maps. The upgrade did a fantastic job of not over-doing the conversion, it still feels like it used to! The only difference is, it doesn't look worse on my HDTV. I have replayed Doom 2 over and over, and I don't think I'll ever stop. Not much else to say about those classics. If your'e a huge fan of Doom and the Doom universe...get this! What's better than 3 for the pride of one. If you are looking for a good FPS, then I suggest look elsewhere first. Try out your basics, Killzone, Call of Duty, Battlefield, Halo - then make your way to this. It will satisfy your shooting craving, but not the best.

Both are pretty decent and enjoyable fps games at average
I honestly didn't grew up playing doom. I only remember playing doom when I was about 8 or 9 on my old windows 95 computer. I didn't get it. Maybe I was too young. Now at 24 I was very curious about Doom. I had barely realized Bethesda put out a compilation of the 3 doom games. I also bought the newest doom game for the ps4 which I yet have to play. So this game comes with doom 1 and 2. Both are pretty decent and enjoyable fps games. Even though they are pretty standard they are really fun Doom is about 4 hours max. No extras is included which is why I am giving this game a 3. Doom 2 also doesn't come with the extra stuff. This really hurts its rating. While Doom 3 includes all of its extras I don't know why they couldn't do that for doom 1 and 2. Apparently you have to buy this at the psn store for 14.99... Yeah its definitely a 4. So doom 3 the lightning is improved. There is autosave checkpoints, I actually like this. A few minor complains would be there is no melee system. You will find yourself wanting to do a melee with your gun but you can't. You can use fists but that is practically useless throughout the game. Another negative I wanted to say is that the enemies take a lot of damage I found myself using a whole clip round on the assault rifle on one zombie guy. Same can be said with the pistol. The combat can be a bit of a joke especially if you are used to more advanced fps games. There is no ironsight so you can't aim as your used to with most fps games. This game doesn't allow you to use ironsight. It is minor stuff that does lead to some big disappointments in which I give it a 3 out of 5. I do feel the classic and nostalgia of it even though I did not grew up with this type of fps. My first real fps was Area 51 and Black for the ps2. But I can see why people like doom. If you want the whole package of Doom this is the one you want to get. And if you want the extra missions and stuff for doom 1 and 2 its gonna cost you a bit more which is total bs. I am glad to see Bethesda taking part of this and even the new Doom game. It suits the style of games they make. If you can find this for 20 bucks or even less this is great. Doom 1 and 2 are the games you will play the most. Doom 3 is really ugly and bland and instantly becomes boring after a few hours because of how so it it is of a shooter and how much ammo you have to waste on one enemy. I know the game is from the early/mid 00's but there were other shooters of its take that weren't as bad. The levels for doom 3 are linear and boring the secret rooms have codes which are a pain to find but because of the internet there is no need to spend countless of hours walking around boring levels finding these codes.
