Perfect solution for us
We have a relentlessly active and curious toddler (is there another kind?), and one of her favorite activities is helping with the dishes. Unfortunately, one of the side-effects of that is that she has learned to pull the kick-step to the counter and climb up to get at things that used to be out of reach. We had already removed knives and other sharp things from the drawers to the counters, but now the front two-thirds of the counters are within easy reach for her, and we needed a better knife storage solution. We did not want to go the magnetic strip route, as there is the small but real potential for a knife to fall (jostled, etc). We realized that the space between the kitchen faucet and the backsplash was a 'safe zone' that she can't easily reach, both because it's waaay back from the front of the counter, and also because it's defended/blocked by the faucet itself. However, simply laying the knives back there would have led to them being wet a lot of the time, plus the potential for nicks and cuts trying to extricate specific blades from the pile. So, I went looking for something that might fit in that narrow space. The good news is that this knife block fits perfectly back there, and does a great job of holding our knives. I have seen some questions about whether knives can go in at an angle, and they can, easily. However, this knife block is tall, so it may not be the best fit if placed directly under cabinets. I tried it that way just for kicks and found that it is still usable, but it's not terribly convenient and one of the angled blocks (like Kapoosh) would probably be a better choice if height is restricted. But for us this is the PERFECT solution. We got the lime green color, which matches some of our trim work and makes for a nice accent. We couldn't be happier with this block, because it provided a safe, functional, and stylish solution to our problem - highly recommended.

Big quality control issue
Seemed to be the best choice for a limited counter space. Bought my first Bodum Bistro Knife Block about 10 years ago. It served well until recently the material of the body of the block became disgustingly sticky and the "straws" holding the knives all twisted. This was odd and too soon in my opinion, but as a creature of habit I ordered the same one. It arrived with the bottom broken and separated. Annoying but ok, lets return and try again. The second one came with the bottom not broken but separated and not attachable. Call me mad, but I have given it the third try, even though now I see many other reviews with the same problem. Holding my fingers crossed, will update. UPDATE: The second exchange did not help. The third block arrived with exactly same problem, the bottom is not attached and is not attachable. As I am not the only one reporting the same problem with this item, shame on the manufacturer and the seller who ignore these reports and continue selling a defective item for a lofty price.

Unique and very functional
We bought this to replace a similar knife block (which was a two-tier, angled, universal block with wood exterior). I was worried this would be too small to hold everything we need, but it holds a surprising number of knives. The black plastic rods are very smooth and not packed in too tightly, so the knives slide in and out very smoothly. The exterior is a very durable, high quality, rubbery plastic. It's slightly tapered, but the dimensions are approximately 2" x 8" x 8". It is quite sturdy and I'm not worried about it falling over. It looks great on the counter: very modern and sleek. We use it to hold 12 knives: three small paring knives, two 4" utility knives, one 4" wide-blade spreader, one 6" santuko, one 7" santuko, two 8" French, one 8" carving, and one 8" bread. There would easily be room for a few smaller knives as well. It holds a surprising amount.

Good looking, and does the job!
After years of using a traditional wooden block, we bought 2 of these to store our collection of about 8 knives. Very happy with them so far. They occupy less space on the counter, look very contemporary, and allow us to store knives of all shapes and sizes, including a cleaver. I believe they are more hygenic too, as the plastic sticks can be taken out and washed, and don't accumulate bacteria like a wooden block would do. Knives can be arranged at an angle, or vertically. Perhaps the only complaint would be that larger knives, if stored vertically, don't go all the way into the block...they protrude a little bit. But all in all, excellent, and for a good price. Will buy more if we need more knife space!

Looks great in my kitchen and protects my expensive knives
I REALLY like the look of this knife holder and is it pretty functional. Here are my overall thoughts: Pros: - Great looks. The red really pops without being over the top and the textured surface is a nice touch. - The plastic sticks keep knives secure without damaging them and are removable/washable should they become dirty. Cons: - I'm not sure how some folks are getting 12+ knives in this thing. Right now mine is holding five knives- 8" chefs knife, 6" utility knife, two paring knives and a bread knife- and it is crowded. - My 8" chef's knife only goes in about 2/3 of the way, leaving quite a bit of exposed blade. Not a serious concern but I'll have to be careful reaching for things in that vicinity. - Not really a con but I wish the block was set at an angle to alleviate cabinet clearance issues and make the knife pull more "natural." Overall I like this knife block and will use it until I find something that meets more of wants.

Trash
This was an anniversary gift for my wife, as she is a fabulous cook. I have steadily built up her professional knife collection, and this seemed the perfect knife block. However, it arrived with the bottom completely separated from the body of the block. That's a fabulous way to kick off your 18 year anniversary gift exchange. I'll never purchase one of these again. 50 bucks! Ha! It's not worth 50 cents.

Best knife block ever. Well worth the price point.
The best knife block ever. I’ve never bought a knife set but I I have a cherished eclectic collection of good knives, many are decades old. The Bodum has seemingly endless space for mismatched treasures. I bought my first one 18 years ago, still functioning fine but decided to replace as it’s looking shabby. Takes a while to ship from Europe and price point a little high but worth every penny. It’s also super safe. You never have to risk a cut from miss aiming a slot in a wooden block. It’s full of rubber bristles so you can stuff your sharp blades away without a care. No doubt this second one will outlive me!

Hot and Useful
I saw this on some tv show and thought that could be cool. I read a couple of reviews that said it would be next to useless for long knives and not worth it. Wrong! It works perfectly for my 10 long chef's knives no blades are left exposed. It works great with scissors and small knives as well. Sits sturdily on the counter and the insert comes out easily for cleaning. Beside that it looks awesome. The colour is very vibrant so if you are looking for that splash of colour, plus function, I would recommend. If you are tired of the old fashioned wooden knife blocks this is a nice change.
