Good, Mid-Level Scanning Tool
While I am only a "shade tree mechanic," I consider this to be a mid-level tool. For the price you seem to get a lot of features. It helped me to diagnose catalytic converter and oxygen sensor issues on two of my vehicles. It allows you to display live data, so I was able to monitor the oxygen sensor voltage while driving to find the faulty unit. It's also nice to know that I can access ABS, SRS, and transmission codes, if needed. You can use it in conjunction with a phone app to receive clearer problem descriptions and links to parts sources, but you DO NOT have to use the app to get data from your vehicle's computer. You can view/clear codes and also reset some service reminders. For example, it was able to quickly reset the oil life meter on one of my vehicles. On the other, it couldn't do it directly but was able to provide exact instructions on how to do so manually. It's great to be able to check my vehicles for pending codes before taking them to the garage for my state's required inspections. That way, there are no surprises. I think my mechanic is honest, but I take the "Trust but verify" approach. It doesn't ship with extensive instructions, but if you are someone who works on your own vehicles, you probably enjoy and are good at figuring things out. If you read the prompts, the menus make sense and are easy to navigate after a little trial and error. I find it fun to explore all of the various options. It seems to be able to provide far more data than I will likely need to use in my home garage. If not having a thick, descriptive manual included with this device seems daunting, you may be better off stopping by your local auto parts store to use their free reader.

Feature Rich
I needed an upgrade to my basic OBD scanners which were very basic budget devices. This Innova unit does vehicle specific diagnosis along with ABS (Anti Lock Brake Systems), SRS (Supplemental Restraint Systems), and Charging system checks (non-hybrid). It was very handy that this came with a branded carrying case and the required batteries. Download the full users manual at the company website as the one included is just to get you started. Lots of information there. First thing I noticed about this unit is that it has onboard power. Having this feature allowed me to turn on the device without having it plugged in. This allows for 1) a lighted OBD port so I can see in the dark and 2) allows me to use the device's built in to locate the OBD port on the specific vehicle itself. Yes, this scanner has an onboard library of the location of various port locations. VERY useful as I've had trouble finding them on certain vehicles. Having onboard power also means it will save your vehicle profile. It contains a nice library of trouble code definitions and correction procedures. Obviously these are basic guidelines but it gives good direction on where to start looking at for the problem. I ran the general OBD checks, Enhanced manufacturer specific tests, ABS, and SRS checks. The unit responds fairly quick to the button presses. Holding down the button allows you to scroll down the list faster without having to tap every single time. The screen is bright and clear. Backlighting is adjustable. Button presses have an optional audible beep. What's also useful was the Emissions Readiness checks for smog inspection (AKA I/M Readiness). If you fix your car and erase a code, your vehicle computer must run a series of checks to ensure your vehicle is ready for a Smog Check. This device not only shows you which emissions component monitors have passed the checks, it also has vehicle specific parameters on when the monitor will run. For example it tells you that certain checks only run during a cold start or some only when a certain coolant temperature has been reached. This saves the user a lot of time. Instead of guessing and hoping, we can know for sure how to get it ready for the smog check. This is a great and much needed addition to my tool box. As cars become more and more computerized every mechanic needs to keep up with what is required. Highly recommended.

crazy how far these scan tools have come!
My first use for this tool to try it out was to diagnose my 2003 toyota matrix for a bad catalytic converter vs a bad o2 sensor or exaust leak. I knew the tool had a option to read the live o2 sensor data... what I didn't know Is I was able to graph a chart in real time with the voltage of the front o2 sensor, after finding that out and switching back and forth between the 2 charts for front sensor and rear.... I realized I can also put the 2 charts transposed over each other so I can see both sensor's on 1 graph at 1 time!!! That made all of the difference I could easily see the rear o2 sensor reacting with the front instead of being almost flat lined... What a awesome feature!! It allows a max of 2 sensor's at one time. I am glad that I lost my old scan tool now lol. I got this on sale for 100.00 which is a awesome deal for this powerful little tool! UPDATE: I removed 1 star this tool sometimes wont rescan a car if it has previous codes and there is no way in the tool or app to tell it to manually re scan the computer for codes. most of the time it works but it is aggervating when it doesnt. There is also issues with old car's being stuck in the scan tool with no way to delete them. I can remove the car from the app but not on the tool. It is hard to erase codes too I press the erase button but it just beeps and nothing happens. some things with this tool are hard to navigate and figure out how to do what you are wanting to do. It is still a good tool for the money I just wish you had more control over it and it was easier to use.

This product is not compatible with Indian and other Asian vehicles. Also this particular model 6100p has been discontinued, Which was not mentioned to me while purchasing. We will get no updates and it’s a waste of money . I want to return and buy something which will work On our models of cars and is not outdated.
