Outstanding-Above and Beyond
I have played the clarinet for 9 years. I had a yamaha ebonite clarinet and a wooden clarinet valued over a thousand each. I held first chair for most of my musical career. I sadly sold them both when I got to college because I was pretty broke. 5 yrs later I decided to get back into music so I bought this clarinet. It had such a great value so I gave it a shot. When it arrived I greased it up and all the joints fit together pretty easily for first time set up. It is expertly crafted and looks better than my pricey yamaha! I warmed up and I played a few scales in 2 octaves and wow! It sounds just like my yamaha (granted I have to work on my embrochure, its been years). It has so many accesories too! Like wow. Grease, stand, very sturdy case, cleaning rag, 10 reeds 2.5 strength and gloves. Seriously hit the jackpot with clarinet. I would not say its a professional clarinet sound quality wise (wood is always better) but it is definitely worth more than I paid for it in my opinion.

Great Clarinet fro beginners, possibly the best for beginners
Many professional instrument reviews on other sites say this Mendini clarinet is a great bargain for students. I bought it and have started teaching myself to play again. The sound is good, and what is nice about a new clarinet is the pad seals are tight and the keys are smooth working. For the price of two months rental you can have a new instrument to keep. Other more professional models are in order when I get my chops back, but my playing right now is not capable of making the quality sound a more professional instrument would produce. So that's why this clarinet is a great one for students and beginners: tight, smooth, good sound, other reviews of other clarinets in this price range say the sound is not good. On this Mendini, the sound is good.....just remember to put cork grease on the corks when you assemble it for the first time so you don't wreck them.

I have played clarinet off and on for nearly 6 decades
I have played clarinet off and on for nearly 6 decades now. I grew up on Bundy and Selmer brands and continue to praise their quality. I taught thousands of students in public school band very successfully for over 13 years--including some groups who achieved national recognition. But I have played very little over the past few decades. If I had a student come in with a clarinet like this, like most band directors, I would probably have turned up my nose much like many of the reviews I have read regarding this brand. BUT I WOULD HAVE BEEN WRONG to do so! I pulled out my old clarinet a few weeks ago and tried playing it but, like me, it was pretty worn out and unplayable. But I wanted something I could use to relive some old memories. I saw this low priced instrument and thought, why not. As soon as I put it together and played it some, I realized immediately that, for this price, this instrument is really not too bad at all! In fact, it actually works pretty doggone great! I would still generally recommend most students start on a better quality instrument, but I certainly would not say stay away from this. I would say, sure, ok, it should be fine for at least a year or two. Then plan on moving up to a better quality instrument. But I would also STRONGLY caution the parent AND student to be very careful with it. Keeping it in good repair for that period might prove more expensive in the long run. As a professional, I would know how to do that--a beginning student is less likely to do the same.

Wonderful wooden horn
This is a truly beautiful horn. I wasn’t sure based on one review, however, I looked at other reviews online and was more encouraged. This instrument played well immediately out of the box. All the keys worked very well and smoothly. This is a solid wood horn and sounds deep and rich. I have had time to play it a great deal and have found it to be well worth the money. In both the upper and lower registers it manifests a clean and pleasant tone. It plays effortlessly for me and I am very happy with it. Considering the price I would say it was well worth the money. I am still using the mouthpiece that came with it. No complaints here.

Great low cost instument
I play clarinet for a community band and for church. This clarinet has good tone and seems to have good playability. The keys seem to be "thin" and I am hoping they do not bend with normal use, but this is yet to be seen. I used my own reed and all the notes from low to high seem to be good. The reeds that came with this clarinet are more suited for a beginner or somebody that does not play often. The case is very nice. A stand is also included and it does work well for a low quality stand, but the stand is padded as not to mar the instrument. Every thing is functional and this would make a good instrument for somebody that does not want to invest a whole lot of money. It does have a 1 Year Warranty Against Manufacturer's Defects and also comes with cork grease, cleaning cloth, a pair of gloves and a practice booklet for beginners. I believe this is a excellent deal. What else could you expect for about $100?

Great Value for beginners. Not for much else.
So, this is a great instrument to learn on. But it's really just for beginners. Here are some of the pros and cons I experienced. Pros: - Cheap! - Full of great accessories. - It does, in fact, work. - Nice case (if you don't mind zippers) Cons: -It's very flat (the one I got anyway) it's almost an "A" instead of a "Bb" instrument. -Some notes just don't come out well -Some alternative fingerings also sound fuzzy and unclear -Putting it together was very difficult for a while (the corks were kind of tacky even with cork grease. It's like they didn't treat the cork with paraffin when the cork was installed). So if you or your child is learning alone at home, this is a great way to get started. But if you or your child is playing with a band, tuning may be an issue. Once you start approaching late beginner to early intermediate play, you may want to find a higher quality instrument.

Great little Clarinet! Fantastic value and excellent quality for the price. I've played; Artley's, Selmer Series 9, Buffet E-11, and R13's both Bb & A Clarinets. This little number is quite solid, plays beautifully, is very aesthetically pleasing and comes extremely well packed. Consummate and professional presentation with all the trimmings! I've only had it a day or two, but I'm sure it'll be fine in the years to come. Besides, I purchased the extended warranty & service plan for a modest fee. Outstanding, I highly recommend it, enjoy!

I've played clarinet since i was young and I've been in the conservatory for 2 years in clarinet, so i know what i am talking about in terms of quality. I've tested the clarinet with my M30 Vandoren embouchure, because the embouchure they give you can just go straight up in the trash can. If you gonna buy this clarinet (which i reaaaally don't recommend) be ready to know how to repair it, spring are thin and cheap (so you have to replace them with stronger ones when they fail ), they took the worst kind of metal to make the keys, like the metal is so soft you have to be extremely careful when assembling the clarinet. And they can't take a measurement for quality control, like i had to sand both side of the inner diameter of the barrel join to fit my mouthpiece and the upper body of the clarinet. The clarinet failed me on the second day when the the E and F# key started to stick together. I had to dismantle them, take a file, and removes the burrs from the axle holes. After bending the key to the right height and for proper clearance, they worked fine. The "steel" ring are not flush with the wood, so i had to sand it to look less ridiculous. Last thing is the inner of the clarinet is not sanded, so when you check with your finger in it, it feels very rough. The only good point of this is when it is working it has a good sound. The accessories they give you are just garbage, the only good thing is the tuner and the cork grease, they give you a clarinet stand but it is not even working XD. Overhaul, Don't buy this clarinet, it is badly manufactured, unless you want to practice how to repair a clarinet.
